Question Engine Cleaning, help needed

My engine is in need of a good clean to to the previous owner putting a grease/oil on for protection. Over time the grit and grime has built up.

What is the best cleaner to use and how should I go about cleaning my engine?

Unhappy Jasoon

Have you tried to clean yours? would you use a jetwash? I know some people don't advise this though I have tried it to no success.

Tape up your electrics as best you can and get some spray on degreasant, leave to bake for twenty minutes come back with one garden hose and squirt gently. If you desire, use a dog leg brush, one with a long handle, and scrub in the degreasant. It should come off pretty well after a few scrubs and squirts.

Good Luck

Try the CD-2 stuff from Halfords ,it's 2 cans , one to get the grease off ,then let it dry and spray on the second can and it makes the engine bits shine like new .
It gets recomended on here often

Another vote for CD-2

I used a garden sprayer to rinse it off.

On mine I use a degreaser , then jet wash it all off , but I use my airline to blow the water away otherwise it plays hell with the electrics , if you dont blow the water off it will cause problems until it dries out.

Did you do much protection of parts before using it ?

Cheers,

Mark re CD-2 , yes I covered up the Alarm, alternator and Distributer , and also the intercooler intake , then when applying the detailer I covered the belts at the front .

Another CD2 fan. £8.00 and it brought my engine up like new. A good 30 mins was required along with a light spray but......well lets just say I wish I'd have done a before and after picture.

Instead of using a hose pipe/jetwash, you could use a watering can, as it is much easier to control, and less chance of drowning the engine.

Jasoon - my response can be sumarised in 2 words, and the second one is "off". Fortunately mine was pretty clean to start with.

Wink

CD2 is the stuff to use

spray it on 20 minutes then wash off with watering can or hose pipe slowly
wipe off and then.....

...get the misses to clean the entire engine using a small electric toothbrush watching her bend over (of course)

... then spray on the final coat

Jobs a good -un !!!!
