Sadly a lot of the Scoobs at motorpoint tend to be imports, so the warranty might be an issue, plus they come from Cyprus, and have no underseal Etc.
Cheers

You sure that its just a WRX you are after?
As you are coming from an elise there will be a power difference and maybe an STi would make you feel more at home.
Just an idea on your adventure.

just spoken to motorpoint and they provide the warranty and let you take it to a garage of your choice so long as it VAT registered.

I just can't decide on whether to get a new one, or risk getting an older mk1 import for 5k. I need something fairly reliable as i do about 300 miles a week.

Does anyone know the performance specs for the new wrx?

Make sure if looking at a new one from whatsthepoint that you get an all in price, for on the road. There may be some hidden charges, CAT 1 alarm for instance, and your not going to get it insured without. A tracker is requested by some insurances but this is usually for the STI. The 'warranty' is more of an insurance and they can have a maximum limit. Saying that they do seem to be reliable motors, I bought a UK car and dont regret it, would do the same again.

Price is as follows ::

Car 16,699
Registration, Road Tax and Road Prep £285
Cat Alram £399
Tracker either £109 or £316 depending on what service level.

seems like a good price, but if I could get 2 good years out of a 5k import, I would rather put the money saved towards a new 111R Elise

Take the price you have there........ and ring at least one Subaru dealer and see if he can match.........

I've found in the past sometimes they will , sometimes they won't.........

i purchased my car from motorpoint in slough similar set up to trade sales just closer to me they were a bit more expensive that trade sales but matched the price in the end.
i tried my local dealer who could not get near the price came with warranty (not subaru) and it is undersealed i really think that is done as standard but there is a lot of scaremongering about? motorpoint sell 500 cars a week! which tells you they are doing something right and the public are fed up with being ripped off!!

i havent a clue where my car originates from and really dont think it matters nobody can tell the difference to look at it and our local dealer sells secondhand imports which have been traded in

i really believe the "import" issue is going away

you may be able to get a dealer to match that. It depends on who you speak to and when (if they want a sale they'll do it!)

Try a couple of dealers starting with your most local one. It cant hurt and you may get a uk car plus start a relationship off with the local dealer.

Many thanks -

I think my main problem at the moment is whether to risk buying a 1993 import or spend the extra up front and get a brand new car.

Motorpoint are getting the wrx's from Malta and have 2 in stock within the next 2 weeks IIRC

Wink

only my 2p worth
but given you need reliabilty and do 300 miles a week (a bit like me)
then i would go for the newer car for that and peace of mind with the warranty... sounds like a good deal with motorpoint.

a 10 year old import wont be as reliable, its getting near the end of its life, its probably been heavily modded, thrashed and has unknown history...
unless you are lucky to get one where you know all or most of the above i wouldnt touch one with a barge pole....
like i say just my opinion... im sure others would not agree...

you pays your money and takes your chance....

have fun whatever though....

Russ
I've looked everywhere for a car.
Trouble with MotorPoin is that the cars come from Malta at the mo.. MotorPoint Derby tild me you can take their supplied Subaru car to the Main Subaru Delaer in Derby and they will service it and do warranty work and MotorPoint would pay for the warranty as its 1year with them!
BUT.. i then went to Beechdale Subaru Derby and in passing mentioned cars from MP... he said they wouldn't do any work on a car from there as its not from a EU country and when they 'plug'them in to the computer different part numbers etc come up!!!!

AND.. by the time you add the bits to the base price of MP cars your not that much more to get a FULL uk car........ I've been offerd a NEW WRX3 at Heritage Leceicester for £18300

you pays your money you takes your choice
