Always warm it up..........and always warm it down.

Turbo's are sensitive things and need looking after.

I personally don't take the revs past 2.5K to 3K for 10-15 minutes to warm up.

Usually drive last couple miles off boost with low revs.m them let engine tick over 30 to 60 seconds to warm down.

Oh yes they do !

I always allow either 10 - 15minutes or 8-10 miles before letting loose with the turbo

If your car is garaged and you're taking the car out first thing in the morning, boil the kettle, pour water on your teabag, go out to garage and start car up, go in and drink your tea (firstly take the teabag out !).
Go out to car and you can now drive off with the engine nearer to operating temp.

I do similar and it means that you're driving off with less time to wait before giving it a bit of welly - I still drive the first 3 - 4 miles or so a bit like a granny but after that I feel it's warm enough to take a reasonable amount of boost.

It's better for your car to start it, give it 20 seconds or so (i.e put your seat belt on, set stereo / lights /wipers etc) and then drive off. If you leave it idling it takes longer to warm up so it spends more time running at cold temperatures and suffers MORE wear.

ok, so i dont have the benefit of any oil temp gauges etc, so isn't the fact that the engine temp gauge is up to where it normally is, a good sign that you can start hooning?

I appreciate it takes a while for the oil to circulate and reach operating temp, but this cant' take considerably longer than it takes for the whole engine to warm up surely?

isn't the temp gauge related to the water temp? Not 100% sure but i think oil will take a bit longer to reach it's optimum working temp.

I prefer to be safe, engine rebuilds are expensive.

Thumbs up

just enjoy the car mate, but let her warm up before booting it. I usually keep below 3000 rpm until temp is at normal operating temperature, and if you've been driving "enthuastically" take it easy on the last mile or two before getting home - this goes double if you've been on a motorway!

Run it on optimax.

Get some (crystal) clear indicators and repeaters - a minor mod but makes a huge difference in appearance IMHO.

Uprate the headlamp bulbs too - you can get some high wattage headlamps and blue sidelights for around £25 from powerbulbs.com

£40 for a disklok!? Bloody Hellfrauds charged me, er, £60 or £80. I forget, anyway, more than £40!

At £40, it's a criminal idea not to get one!

Mine usually hits 80c oil temp after around 4-5 miles - then all hell breaks loose
