When Should I Be Changing Gear
Car: MY02 STi (standard) Import (Lichfield Imports)

What RPM should I set my 'toy' to bleep at telling me to change up???
Cheers

No you mis understand, Just wondering where the best power curve would be, if there is a 'sweet spot' at a certain rev range, that I can set my limiter to.
Not just when I need to change, but if there is a BEST place to change.

Unless your in top gear... that is at wich point you'de be doing 175 @ 7k in the Sti... go mine around to just over 7k down a big long hill...
Had to break hard before I got the end of my drive though...
Hope this helps...

I'd use the "Beep" to tell you change now or you are going to blow the engine rather than change now for optimal power, but to be honest as stated by others you should be able to "feel" how the car is and wether the power is tailing off. If you can feel that and change you shouldn't get near the danger line anyway

Unless you are in a hurry you should go for days on end where 5,000RPM is never reached. In a hurry 6k is a good change up point and as Daz says, after 6.5k there is often no advantage on a standard vvt car. Unless of course you are in practice boy racer mode in which case lots of hitting the rev limitter, lots of flames at night and a new engine every few months is the way to go.

I have a MY02 Sti type UK (Prodrive style) and have the bleep set to 6.2k. I find the revs in the Scoob more difficult to judge (by ear) for some reason and this setting gives a good change point (when you need to go that far) as well as a decent safety margin.
I turned the bleep off when I got the car - but turned it back on after a few weeks as it lets you keep your eyes on the road when you're trying a bit harder. By the time you've reacted to the bleep, you're at 6.5k anyway.

My thinking is exactly the same as Scoobsti!! Mine (MY03 STi TypeUK) is set to 6.2k aswell. I found this to be pretty optimal for a good change.
edited to say, the best way is to 'play-around' a bit and find your own optimal change point, thats what I did......and have fun doing it!
