How the hell do you know whata ferret being abused with a nutmeg grinder sounds like
I would check intake hoses for loose connections of hairline cracks that may only leak when the pipe contracts in the cold.
Other thing, mines is bit schreechy when cold i found the alternator bearing was a bit dry and WD40 cured it
stay away from the rodents

have you actually checked under the bonnet just to make sure there isn't infact a ferret under there being raped with a nutmeg grinder? or maybe by another ferret?
worth considering, just to make sure.

Don't want to be pedantic, but a ferret is'nt a rodent, it's a Mustelid!
