Impreza WR1?
Anyone ordered one yet and what's the collective thoughts on it's spec/value for the £29,995 asking price?
Also will this be a UK only model or will their be -better priced- imports available?
cheers

Given the specification and performance of the car, plus the fact that it's a full UK market car with dealer and warranty support, it's undeniably an attractive option for the selling price.
The WR1 is a UK market model only. You will be able to import a car of similar overall specification and performance, but won't be able to get a UK warranty and full dealer support.

Compared to an Evo FQ300 or FQ330 its a pretty good deal. Compared to a MY04 STi with PPP im not convinced...compared to a Euro STi with a few chosen mods (warantty out the window) im even less convinced.
The one thing no-one can predict is the desirability and re-sale value in the future
Oh and the colour sucks .....

If your after a short term purchase for 4-5 months, then this car will lose money big time. If you keep it for 2-3 years then it should be OK. Spoke to my dealer and they have sold 1 out of 5. OK its not been advertised that much, but in comparision to P1 orders its SLOW. Think it will take quite a few months to shift them all. Therefore dealers will pay crap money if people get shot early on. Not convinced about the colour either. Love or hate.
I think when people are left with a choice of a six month old STI with PPP and 18" wheels for £23k, they will go with that.
Subaru however have done a great job with the WR1 IMHO and brought it in a prices that Mitsubishi can dream about.
I reckon in 6 months time you will be able to buy a second hand WR1 for about £26k.

Im also thinking about the WR1 against an STiPPP and an FQ300.
STi would be £23k + £2k PPP + £1k wheels. So thats £4k for the other toys on the WR1 - not particuarly good value, but then it is completely standard for insurance purposes and residual value should be slightly more. An FQ300 could be £4k cheaper then the WR1.
Decisions, decisions. Has anyone actually managed to negotiate a discount on a WR1 yet???

Well I actually like the colour to be honest. And the wheels are a treat too.
Don't like the rear wing still though...

APJ FQ300 you know you want to!!!!! LOL,seriously WR1 is a great car, just that £30000 for a PPP(315bhp)18s,prodrive springs, and a few cosmetics,is not a bad price,i mean how much would it take to get a STI up to that spec?,mind you i heard that the EVO8 330 MR is going to be the same price, and with current 330s putting out 350-360bhp,sorry to say i know which i would go for(current FQ300 owner!)

Sorry, but as far as I can determine the WR1 will be light years ahead of a MY03STIPPP as a drivers car. The DCCD-A and front/rear power balance alone will ensure this. Basically the FWD bias of the the UK and European STI's kills it for me, hence why I've stuck with what is basically a STI4 Type R in preference to the MY01+ cars...despite having owned, and sold on, both a bugeye and a blobeye.
If I hadn't just bought my childhood dream car(and the fact that the WR! colour doesn't work for me) I'd be thinkning very hard about swapping the 22 for a WR1..full Subaru UK backing for near to the JDM STI experience. The quicker steering rack is the icing on the cake.
Of course a factory standard JDM MY04 STI is going to be alot cheaper and available in nicer colours than the WR1, but then you are back in unwarrentied risk again. My dealer has sold all his WR1's and can't get anymore apparently.

Wife said it "was a lovely colour" ... which worries me... could this be the first Bird friendly impreza?

Sti to the same spec as the WR1 is available on mainland europe, in a variety of colours, including WR blue, and at a cost saving. Wait till May 1st, when Malta joins the EU, and you could even buy one from there!!!, that'll get right up I.M.'s nose.

No it isn't JGriff, get your facts straight bud.
The European version is more or less the same donor car used for the WR1, but doesn't have the PPP (output is as per standard STi at 265ps), Prodrive spring kit, 18" alloys or the WR1 styling cues.
It won't have the WR1's exclusivity or residual values either. As for imports getting up IM (or the dealers') noses, I doubt they'll give a sh*t in this case. It seems they're having no problem at all finding willing buyers for the WR1's.

That was with Direct Line...
For comparison... i'm 26 5yrs No claims, based near sevenoaks in kent.. it was an online quote which gave an extra 10% discount.... 280 less than an M3...

What is it with dealers??? I walk into a showroom (not my local) yesterday, wanting to discuss a WR1. Salesman was out to lunch. Left all my details with someone, who promised a call in the afternoon. Did I get one?? No!! Bah.
Just coming back to my previous question - has anyone actually managed to negotiate a discount off the £30k OTR price??

I didn't get any discount on mine, traded MY03 STI against WR1 and got 20k for it. I rang around at least 6 dealers and they were not giving discount this may be due to the fact they had sold their allocation of WR1's.

Like wise.. but I got a very good trade in price on my P1... As much as if i'd sold privately so saved me a lot of hassle...
Very happy with it, although still waiting to make final judgement till i see the WR1 in the flesh..

Driving lights, not fogs. Styling cues: grilles, matt black interior, gearknob etc. Minor issues I know, and some can be bought afterwards. As you say, the power output can be matched or achieved by third party means is perfectly achievable, but not within the confines of a UK warranty and dealer support.
The point about the WR1 is that the sum of its parts can't be achieved by any other method. While there are plenty of people who aren't bothered, there are still quite a few folk who want the security of a proper "UK" car, and at this time, the WR1 is the most accomplished UK car available.
