22b vs Type r
What are the differences in the driving experience? Is it really 15000 quids worth? Thinking of a buying a 22b but the price gap would need to make it a lot lot better. Is there much power difference between the both?

Well the 22B is based on the STi 4 type R but has alot more done to it from the outset (like seam welding) plus making things lighter. They are not as suited to the UK as the Type UK 22B's but buying one will mean that you get the benefit of having a car that looks great, goes just as well and retains its value (i know of one 9k miler thats going for 25k, pretty good value if you ask me )

The 22B is no way worth £15k over a Type R.
Regardless of quicker standard Scoobs around - the 22B in many peoples eyes, is the ultimate Scoob.
You have to decide if it is the ultimate Scoob for you
I would love one - but there's no way i'd pick one over an R - it would not make financial sense to me

So how can you say a Type R with a complete different gearing to a WRX wont beat a type 22b UK from standstill mate and also the Type R has a different bhp to weight ratio than a WRX and also a different torque figure than a WRX I can understand a WRX not keeping up but the original post was asking about Type R`s mate

My pennies worth...
I have just sold my version 3 Type R and have now got a version 6 Type R v-ltd.
I had a go in a UK spec 22B just before selling the v3 and have to say it was a beast, much more grunt, much more stick-to-the-road, proper brakes and a clutch that was like on or off, hard to find a smooth gear change.
It was thrown into wet muddy corners and I fully expected the car to lose it and end up in a ditch...but it didn't, it just gripped and powered through the bend, amazing!!! Truly exhilirating.
So, so, so much better than my v3...but the v6???
I'll just say, I'm as happy as a pig could be in the piggy stuff! I haven't stopped grinning; the difference in spec between v3 and v6 is awesome. It has all the grip, torque, stiff, teeth rattling performance albeit without the wide arches, adjustable rear spoiler and extra .2 of a litre.
I would probably trade in my v6 for a 22B (Jap spec mind you) pennies permitting, but only for the 'nichedom' factor. My v6 cost about 10K less than I could pick up a 22B for.
By the way, if you want a UK spec look here: http://www.scoobyscene.co.uk/usedscoobs.asp

All things are relative . If you have the money and want a 22B you won't be disappointed. The performance is outstanding ( just ask the STi 7 PPP driver from the Dales run on Sunday- there for the taking) but you need to know what you are doing. I've had an Evo 4 and 6 (340bhp) and 2 Impreza's a Macrae and STi 7 (330BHP) none of which had the torque of the 22B . Never driven a Type R, but I believe they are equally as quick if not slightly quicker. But you cannot beat the Kudos and the looks of a 22B.
Mine is a UK 22B and all I would say to you is, make sure you get a full inspection and look at as many as you can ,and ask as many questions on the boards as you can.
I looked at the one thats for sale now, (which both Scoobyscene and Just Sports have for sale), before either of them saw it .I decided not to buy , as the person selling it wasn't exactly straight with the truth ie mileage more than stated , not full history , parts missing(which are no longer available), but the car itself was very clean and straight. Interesting to see that the reg plate has come off and been sold.
Anyway , whichever you decide to get ,22B or Type R (there's a very nice low mileage V Ltd one for sale on the boards) I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
Good Luck
Gary

Hey Sorry.
Mickey thought you were saying in your original post that you couldnt beat a Type 22b with a Type R. Like I said never tried it and probably never get the chance to but was a mate reading figures out of a book. I would rather spend the Extra £15000 making the Type R go better like what Harvey has done to his Wagon.
Altho would be nice to own a 22b but remember what Glen from Revolutions said about his 22b and he prefered the Type R over the 22b

Hello fatman ...... if you get one I wont recognise you anymore when you go to burbidges for ya bacon rolls.
Hope your gonna stick ya flamer kit on it .....haha...
Personally I love the look of them but dont think they are worth the massive premium over a Type RA.

Mate the fact that everyone would hate it is more than good enough reason to have the flamer on it IMHO....

If you fancy a beer sometime gimme a shout, might even be able to drag Chris out as well?

To be honest yes they are alot more than a Type R but if you can afford to buy one cast then you probably wont loose as much money over a given amount of time.
Ive not driven a Type R but Ive driven a few later clasic WRX's and a couple of P1's and the 22b feels much more solid when you drive it, non of the usual creeks and rattles weve come to love from our clasic Imprezas
The 22b also feels quicker than it probably is on paper because the torque realy gets you mooving.
If I had the cash Id get the 22B, you would be mad not to as its going to keep its value better but if its finance youve got to way up the cost of intrest.
