GREEN UNMARKED IMPREZA - M3/SURREY/MIDDLESEX AREA
#4
Scoobies are becoming more and more popular with the police. The Skipton, West Yorks police station has two. They are both white and fully marked as police however.
They take all the fun out of my daily commute now.

The Surrey Police also use an ummarked red 4 door Turbo which goes up & down the A3 a fair bit.
I stopped for petrol on the A3 when I had my red 4 door & the guy behind the desk thought I was plain clothed plod as they often fill up there!!
Cheers
Julian.

question is, are they prodrive'd?? my guess would be 'yes'
How about a mag feature (Revs would be up to it I guess, can't say I read it myself ), Police scooby versus, Standard UK spec turbo, Prodrive'd uk car, some owners cars that are modded, plus of course all the various models of jap import. Might give us a true idea of what we're up against.
Also, a showdown between the scoob models and a police helicopter would be good, let's see how fast the choppers really are!!! (yes, I know speed is not the main reason for using a chopper, and that line of sight probably is)

Thanks for telling us about the Red unmarked on the A3. I have been known to spend alot of time utilising the A3. Legal of course Wouldn't want to break the stupid 50mph limit that was introduced. Oh dear I feel a stupid speed limit rant comming on.

Yes, this Scoob is prodrived!
If you fancy your chances against a police helicopter, think again. Our one does about 180mph IN A STRAIGHT LINE, so usually once they've seen you there is no getting away.
As for the magazine feature, I can't really see my boss being up for that somehow.

Stuart,
Is that 180mph into zero headwind?
Out of interest, what make and model of helicopter does your force run? Most general purpose small choppers I've heard about tend to have closer to 140/150mph max "ground covering" speeds, so it sounds like you guys have something a bit different...

Was reading a bit about some crims in the US, who were caught, and when they examined the car they found a rocket launcher, when asked what it was for they said they'd use it to shoot down any police helicopters that they saw!
I think the whole world has gone mad

Moray,
We're actually a bit greedy and run 3 helicopters, but we share one of them with Surrey Police.
The aircraft they currently use are Eurocopter AS355-N 'Twin Squirell'. If your interested CO53's homepage is at:

Rum,
I travel from Leeds down the A65 every day and only tend to see them on the Addingham bypass.
They tend to patrol the other side of Skipton though, A56 to Colne and A65 to Hellifield. I had a chat to one of the officers the other day and he said that both had the Prodrive PP.
They also seem to have some fast bikes (Honda Blackbirds). The reasoning is because stations are few and far between in this neck of the woods and they need hardware capiable of keeping up.
I'm still awaiting the delivery of my Scooby . But it's only a matter of weeks now (Silver MY00). Counting the days.
I'll keep a look out for you.

The dark blue one that is in the Hants/Farnborough area waved at me the other day. They pulled up along side me at a set of lights and It was'nt until further inspection that I realised that they were Police.
They both smiled and carried on along their way.
Fair play.

No, I'm not planning on outrunning the plod, doubt the WRX Wagon would be capable.
The comment was a lighthearted attempt at humor, that the lad's mags might decide to pit plod versus civvy, and see the results.

The Leicestershire Police also have a green turbo (silver 17inch alloys). I spend a lot of time travelling up and down the m69, and I have seen it pull over many unlucky people. Apparently this impreza has had the graham goode treatment (plenty of mods)....unsure how true this is though.
On the subject of police, I get pulled over a lot because of my age. Most times we end up chin wagging about how fast it can go, what mods its got on and what do I pay insurance. :-)
Cheers,
Greig.

Aaron,
Not the case with our helicopters, Heathrow & West Drayton ATC move everything else out of the way. The same goes for the air ambulance that works from the Royal London Hospital.
As soon as the helicopter is assigned to a job contact is made with Heathrow ATC who are given the details of the job, they then move anything in the way to a safe distance.
Thats provided their computers haven't crashed of course!!
