Have Esso stopped selling Super unleaded? A lot of forecourts appear to lack the extra pump. Does this mean I will be forced into using Shell opticmax?
I have a few reservations about the Shell opticmax as their Formula Shell knackered the engine on my Marina in the 80's.

Was it ever right - at least they started the rust off for you.
I would thank shell for the credibility they saved you in the 80's.

oh and my day used to own a Marina, not to mention an Allego (which i inherited as my 1st car), Vauxhall's Viva & Victor and an MG Montego among other later BL/ARG motors. fortunately his wonderful choice of motors hasn't rubbed of on me

Still Esso SUL at the 3 garages nearest me, although one claims to be 98 RON on the pump, the other two 97 RON. Not sure whether it's the same petrol in all 3.
Ah, the Morris Marina 1.8 Super, the one with the executive rear armrest, my first car. Owned it 4 years, never let me down, used to overtake in places I wouldn't even consider overtaking in the Scooby now, that's how fast it was (or rather, that's how young and reckless I was). Bought it for £550, sold for £350, that's £50 depreciation per year!

Ratman, (and others who have owned fine BL cars) men of my own heart
I have owned three Marina's, an original 1972 1.8 Deluxe coupe in teal blue, a 1.8 TC (now that WAS fast for its time, MBG engine with twin SU carbs, sounded lovely). That was in blaze ( a bright orange/red colour). My final Marina was a "new age" 1.7 O' series HL in russet brown. Lovely beast. Pity the engine started burning more oil than a miners lamp after just 14,000 miles (thanks in part to Formula Shell I reckon).
Anyway, besides my WRX shooting brake I now have a lovely Austin Allegro in Harvest Gold
