Question Exhausts too loud??

Come on guys, no one enjoys the sound of the throbbing flat four burble more than me but some of the cars that zoom past my house (in a 30 limit!) here in Horsham shake the crockery and wake the kids!
I know I've got a slightly "gay" standard WRX exhaust but don't some of the big bore varieties go a bit far, or am I just a big bore myself?

Your just a big bore

Seriously tho I've got a SS full de-cat on mine and find it just loud enough to enhance the burble without going ott.

M8 I fully agree!!!!!!!

My Sti PPP is just about right, quiet when pottering around and souinds luvely @ full chat...

But what alot of people don't realise is the missery it causes to folks who live near main roads, if these people had thier neighbours driving past thier home making noise all the time they would soon be very very pissed off!
If every one had a loud exhaust then it would just be anarchy, no one would get any peace, you would be in the park and all you could hear cars... that would be great don't you think!
what most muppets with very loud pipes dont' realise is thier not the only one whose driven past someones home in the last 1 hour... no 15 others including bikes have done it so every 4 mins people on main roads are disturbed... continualy...
Then its not so funny! Missery is too kind a word...!

In all honsty i love to hear stuff gving it some, for those who recall the CBX1000 Six, nothing comes close to that sound...
but hear in the UK where houses are mostly quite close to roads...its out of order, sorry but if its too loud at around town speeds then the offenders should be heavily fined...
After all would you like it... continually, i think not!

Thanks for your support Daz.
The noisiest ones are the ones who drive back and forth all night for some reason too!

I have to agree. My RB5 had the prodrive exhaust which, though not as loud as most, was considerably louder than standard. I used to feel very self conscious whenever I booted it, even if I was in the middle of nowhere. It did sound lovely, but just too loud.
Each to their own though, so long as those with loud exhausts have a little respect for other people.

My back box is great and adds to the sound of the car but is nowhere near as loud as say a Blitz - wow!!

It is corsas and saxos with four tailpipes, two cans, a decat etc that are WAY too loud - inside the car and out. The turbo removes a lot of the sound from droning of the exhaust - normally aspirated cars with the equivalent of a Blitz must cause an earthquake!!

A bit much really.

Silly argument. Companies develop ovens, are you equally tempted to put your head in one and turn the gas on?

This is an unfortunate reality of our legal system. It is not (yet) illegal to manufacture an exhaust system that contravenes MOT noise regulations. However, it is illegal to use an exhaust that contravenes MOT noise regulations and/or causes a nuisance.

If you happen to cause a nuisance, you are the person to complain to/about, not the manufacturer of your car, or indeed the exhaust system concerned.

Just think that to yourself next time something disturbs you...

here's good one, my m8 has a secluded house but across the road a guy had two dogs that barked all the time... the guy wouldn't do anything about it and was a complete prat... after a couple of years he sold the dogs.... he was getting older as they pulled him over.
My buddy then got a recording of a kennel and played it for over a month through a PA I lent him... I know this was a bad thing really but the bloke was a complete to$$er... he was so pi$$ed off it was great... in the end the guy was begging him to stop as it was distubing his sleep... funny thats just what my buddy said as he was on early mornings...

What goes around come around!

But also my car is NOT as loud as the wagons and buses that go past every 5 minutes during the day, and every half hour at night until midnight (buses only at night)

Unfortunately <<sweeping generalisation mode>> the people who buy these exhausts want people to hear them and therefore they are often at full chat!

Awwww thats so sad!!!

Try living in the flight path of heathrow for the past 25 years!! There has been an increase in air traffic, Noise and pollution, (thank good Concorde has stopped!) Planes go over nearly 24 hours a day these days, the community complains there are goverment enquiries and what do they do? Build Terminal 5 increasing traffic even more. At least a loud exhaust is gone in a few secs and isnt above 125 db!!

My full decat makes a bit of noise but when its late or I think it will **** people off I always go with low revs to try to make as little noise as possible I think its the only acceptable way to behave. I have to be honest though and say there is a certain motorway bridge in newport pagnell that I sometimes can't resist. Sorry to anyone who lives near there

The sound of a CBX, 6 cylinders into 1 giving it plenty of cable, what a sound 'Oh the memories' the only thing that sounded close to that was the Ferrari 10 cyl F1 at full tilt.

What is a full group N prodrive system going to sound like on my 94 RA, any ideas...??

Cool

stop being sad its your own fault you live there, half of the noise is by crappy uninsured novas with a hole in there zorst or those stuped 1.0L engines with a massive bake bean can on the end (will they ever learn? also why the hell has a ford ka got a bonnet scoop on (when i pass it on the road the guy in it looks puzzled at me because i am laughing my pants off, i think he thinks im mad!!)

i could understand if people had at least a 1.8L engine!!!!! and they have a big zorst.

sorry just had to get it out of my system

oh well (praise the blitz nur spec once again)

Question

Oh dear, sorry to hear that Speedmeister. Hope it isn't my car (with blitz nur spec R) rattling your windows?! Not that I exceed 30mph limits. But I know that even at sub-30 the exhaust has a very distinctive rumble.

Mark, also in Horsham, with MY02 Sti.

Noisey exhausts - like other simialr things really, and I don't get it...

Recent posts:

1. "Which is the loudest exhaust." - Stuff performance, I just want it loud., Why oh why? I want PERFORMANCE, and ideally I want it as quietly as possible.

2. "Which is the loudest dump valve?" - PMSL. Again, don;'t get this. Who the heck wants that tacky "Pssssssssssshhhhhhhtt" noise whenever they change gear? Get back to your Nova. Get the dump valve that is best for the performance, and stuff whether it makes a noise or not.....

3. "I want my stereo to set of car alarms at 50 yds - What should I do?" (or similar). Again.... Why? I want my stereo to sound great, and believe me, I've had some silly systems in the past - But I want it to sound perfect, not be ridiculously loud. The loudness is often a side-effect of a good install, but most sensible folk don't wind the volume up to the point of 100% distortion and burning out subs just so that they can rattle windows, etc.

Just don't get it....

Rant over.
