Exclamation Grey Import 1998 WRX Wagon low Boost

I have a mate who's JDM wagon has just been to Powerstation and ran up low power/tourqe figures (220bhp) with intemitant flat spots...

The ecu is apparently limiting boost to 0.6bar (with a 1mm restrictor), and when an alternaltive restrictor is used it is then masively overboosting.

Powerstation felt the MAF was OK, and tried to connect a SECS monitor to the ecu port, but could not establish a connection?

Does anyone here know enough about JDM non STI's to clarify why this is happening? and why the secs monitor is not compatible?

He is thinking of swapping his ecu for another "identical" model to eliminate an ecu fault (re-setting did not work), but obviuosly does not want to spend huge amounts of cash before hearing peoples advice.

Cheers for any help

Kyle

hmm intresting note, i have a 97wrx
i alsohave a scoobymonitor which to all intents and purposes does the same thing as a SEC`s and when connecting mine for the 1st time it didnt work, i had to reverse the rx and tx wires (think thats what there called) to get mine to work, i was under the impresion that it was simply wired up wrongly, could be sumthing simmiler

try a manuel boost controller to hold the boost still and see if that helps, it will be far cheaper then a ecu
