Smile WR1 Fantastic performance figures

Hi Everyone,
What does everybody think of the recent published performance figures for the WR1?.I think that the tested time for 0-60 is a fantastic achievement, but its the 0-100 time that is raising an eyebrow or two.If it is to be believed, then 10.6 seconds is quite literally the best anyone could ask for.I know Prodrive will have tested the car in absolute optimum conditions, but these figures are really fantastic. Will we be sat here a couple of months from now, discussing how nobody else could replicate these figures?.I know figures are only figures, and its how the car feels on the road, but they do give an indication of how quick the car may be expected to feel.I think that a 996 Turbo is rated at just under 10 seconds to 100 mph,so this gives an indication of how good the WR1 is (supposed) going to be.Maybe Mike (Wood) could help with this thread.Regards, SIMON.

I would look for independent test figures rather than those published by the makers of the car. I.e. independent will be more realistic.

EVO mag has just tested the WR1 along with other cars so wait for the mag. to come out and then talk about the figures.

Cheers

Can't find the other thread...

but i'm sure thier as bobbins as prodrives other figures for the 0-100 time for the STI ppp of 12 seconds....
No chance I did the quearter mile in 13.04 seconds and was 8th at the shootout... got the start bang on and i'm not a crap[ driver... result 97 mph...
No one sti ppp got anywhare near 12 to 100 not has any Hack... in any mag...
and thats with brutal clutch use... To eak another second from the time would be impossible...
As for the WR1 lets see.. but it has 15-20 bhp more and does the 100 in 11.7 and 60 in 4.2 with the same weight car... errrrrr no. thats it ....No

IMO

Sorry, I don't see a standard STi on that list ?

Although I don't know why I am posting this as this thread will now no doubt be vaped along with the last one.

Anyway, all four cars that have been listed, were run on the same day, same conditions under independent testing. If a standard STi made more/less figures (on a different day, different conditions, possibly non independent), then that isn't actually relevent to these test figures.

Cheers

not into an arguement but how have these people got these figures?
It just seems to me that a certain element want to slag off the Wr1 for what ever reason , but I think they will all be proved totally wrong if they meet one on the road...IMHO

So are you saying 4.2 is impossible and is a misprint? Or are you saying the stop watch isn't working right?

I would add in the previous thread the point was made the numbers were more the result of a greater difference across the powerband as a whole not the top number. However I agree they are not representative of what Joe Public would see. But then neither is any other manufacturers published numbers.

(Corrected for spelling!)

If people want one then thats good on them. Just enjoy what youve got instead of all this this stupid childish squabbling over whos car is faster than someone elses. After all a lot comes down to the driver anyway and I bet half the people on here who post about their driving prowess couldnt drive a
pig to market.

Chip, you are probably right.

However the JDM cars are so much nicer to drive on a day to day basis with the new turbo setup, it really is like night and day compared to the Uk setup.

As far as im aware, cars were tested with 2 people in the car and full tank of petrol, would like to know if the cars were given a proper caning or just taken steady as i have heard that the type 25 was in 3rd gear when reaching the 60mph mark but will easily pull over 60mph in 2nd which gives me the opinion that the test may have been done a little easily?
Can anyone who was there comment?

The STi box wont let you do 60 in 2nd, you need to go into 3rd.

Why wont the box let you? the rev limiter on the type 25 has been raised so er yes it is very possible to 60 in 2nd or is it not?

Could be wrong though, but it is what i was told, any idea of the 0-30mph times of all cars involved or are we all going to have to wait til evo comes out?

Hi Walter, already know the results ;-) seeing as i get my type 25 on tuesday! just wanted to know the take on how the cars were actually driven as i wasnt there.
Tony it does say on here
http://www.litimports.co.uk/emailer/14.01.04/
this "6-speed close ratio manual (JDM revised)"
maybe the revision on the jdm box allows it to do over 60mph in 2nd?

Russ,
Maybe, just people seem to want to argue over whats faster or not. Who cares, just enjoy what youve got. Seems peeps are slagging off the WR1 before anyone apart from a few have driven it, they therefore do not have a clue whatys its like to drive anyway.

IIRC the Type25 can do 58mph in 2nd. I think I have that right.

Yes, all the squabbling about figures makes me laugh. I always think, so what if one car do 0-60 0.5 seconds quicker. How is 0-60 a real test, not like it is at all relevant to todays motoring. Much more interesting are figures like 30-60, 40-60, 50-70, i.e. stuff you do everyday, like overtaking, trying to merge onto a motorway etc.

Cheers

I agree fully, but perfomance cars are measured against the clock generaly and so the 0-100 figure if pretty relevant... as a full second 100 does take quite a bit more pull to achieve... and this gives a pretty good indication what the overall performance is... I certainly arn't pulling the wr1 down,,, just the fact that he times seem a bit distorted... as figures go, hopfully the cars in question will make it into the highly regarded Autocar 0-100-0 test done each year... now that will be interesting...

Good point Ian

If you look at the in-gear times for the Spec C (vs CSL vs GT3), as tested by EVO, they are staggering.

I would imagine the Type 25 would better these ? Would be interesting.

Interesting to see this test vs STI8PPP/WR1 as well.

The JDM box has the same first 4 gear ratio's as the UK STi, 5th and 6th are shorter but they have a higher rev range
In gear testing would be nice to see, how you do it would be interesting also as starting from 60 and getting to 80 or going though the gears until you pass 60 and get to 80, the JDM cars would have an advantage here, especially the roller bearing turbo cars as they will pick up virtually instantly in power where as a sleeve bearing turbo car will have some lag between flooring it and accellerating.
