Urgent Road tax question
#5
I left it about a month after my tax ran out on the bike before i filled in the SORN, as I was making repairs to the bike and didn't know wheter I would have it fixed in time for the MOT. No fine appeared, so there must be some leeway. I cannot see them issuing a fine on day 1.

I'm looking at INS163 "New Road Tax Rules"
If you don't renew your road tax the day it runs out a fine of £80 will be issued straight away!... Remember they write to you giving you 2 weeks notice before it runs out....

The law has been around for a while they are just advertising it on TV now. I forgot to declare my old 220 GSI sorn about a year ago and a month after tax ran out I had a fixed fine in post I paid it within 14 days so it was 40 quid if i hadnt it was going to be 80! They gave me a month to declare it sorn i didnt so i got done, it might have changed again recently but thats what happened too me.

Leeway....
Running on about 2-3 months leeway at the moment ISTR. I think they're trying to break us gradually.
Anyone curious enough to wait to find out will get a whopping finel when the ticket does arrive though. FPT + back duty + mitigated penalty probably...
Vindaloo.
