Default recommended mods?

hi all.
i have a unmodded my95 wrx sportwagon [import]
do they have a dump valve as standard? occasionally i think i hear a woosh when changing gear.
can anyone recommend what mods to do first?
ive heard blitz dump valves are the best. it has a sweet exhaust system on it but im not sure of the make.
im sure your all pied off with these newbie questions but any help would be greatly appreciated.

As standard the car will have a recirculating BOV and not the aftermarket atmospheric one. If the BOV is standard and your hearing a woosh sound then its posiible the car has an aftermarket induction kit/panel filter.

As for mods it really depends on what you want from the car.
How much power you want?
The cars handling?
Brakes?
If your going for big power its always best to do the safety mods first and then up the power.

Depends what your looking for mate - I have a 95 WRX

Full de-cat stainless exhaust
Induction kit (K&N)
Samco hoses
Knocklink
Drilled discs etc
DIY Earth mod

Some other bits and bobs and that kept up with a modded competitor

Suggest safety first with knocklink that way you can keep an eye on any mods affecting your engine - thats about £150 for peace of mind..

Then check out the exhaust full de-cat is fun but remember emission tests, gives nice roar and improves low down torque..you may already have one

Although I have an induction kit I reckon a panel filter is better - perhaps the ITG or Green

Dump valve makes noise but doesnt necessarily improve performance, although I get much better boost when changing gears with a dump valve fitted

After that world is your oyster, I got SAMCO hoses for the turbo and intercooler and that had a small impact on boost..

Again I know knocklink isnt fun but I have found it excellent at telling me to back off and you will be surprised at how much fuel seems to vary

knocklink? whats a knocklink.
the car is really quick even compared to some of the newer versions, but i think the lower ratio gearbox in the imports can make it seem so.no complaints on the handling but the brakes do seem to have a bit of [travel] on them.if i took a pic of the engine bay could u guys tell anything from that?
thanks for the replys

The best mod for a wagon would be a BOOT.

Knocklink is a nice little device that monitors detonation - basically set of lights gradually green up to amber then red

If you get amber/red your detonating and have either a fuel grade problem - hence reasons for running import on octane booster all time (unless remapped) or something is causing the car to det and needs looked at

It works by locating a sensor on the engine and transmits it to a box in the cabin - some people mod LED's to their boost guages etc.

Its peace of mind but will only tell you there is a problem, unless you have a re-map IMHO its the best thing to do before playing..

thanks halo
the guy i bought it from is a importer over here.ive got receipts for everything that was done to it since he imported it 3 years ago.he said it was remapped and cool to run it on 95 octane as he had been doin.just in front of the park lght switch on the steering cover box there is two small stems [for screws] so he had something there in easy sight.
thanks again
