Angry Front Calipers gone from black to nasty greeny/yellow after 1st service.....

I don't remember them being an odd colour before the serice so I was wondering...

Is this normal ie. Is it caused by heat? (car is under a month old)

OR

Has whoever the scooby garage got to clean it (badly) after it's service, used an alloy cleaning product and fooked me calipers?

Ours have gone a funny grey-ish colour. Caused by alloy wheel cleaning products, I believe....

Papascooby,

Just looked at mine (got it yesterday), and the two pot front calipers are a mid grey with slight green hint, while the single pot rears are nearly black. No hint of yellow.

I am pretty certain that they were this colour yesterday.....

Thumbs down

They all do that Sir...

don't know why the front calipers corrode whilst the rear ones stay all nice and painted.

I don't think it's anything to do with wheel cleaner. If you look at most 6 month old WRX's there all like this.

It's normal. They all do it perfectly happily without going near any wheel cleaner. Have you any idea the heat cycles front calipers go through? Keeping it in perspective, it might be an issue if your nice STi gold Brembo calipers discolour (they won't ) but the standard four pots are only cheap and sh1tty old calipers, after all

wheel cleaner does it and it will do the same to polished alloys (polished alloy normaly go a rusty yellow) so guys stay away from wheel cleaners you dont need um if you keep your wheels clean!!! my four pots all round are like bran new what are you guys doing to your cars? dread to think what your washing um with? fairy? lol thats only good for taking wax off!

I've found the best way to prevent deterioration of the front ones is to apply Autoglym bumper care with a small 1" decorators brush. Take care not to get any on the discs. My car is 2 years old now and the front calipers still have that "as new" dark green look. You have to apply this stuff once a month to keep the appearance. Now I am sure many doubters on here will say "paint them instead", but this way I don't have the tedious task of having to pick out the Subaru lettering
