Whats the most common fail point on
MOT's with reference to the Impreza?
My 2nd MOT is due in a month and it got me wondering what, and if, there is a common failure?
For example, an MX5 common fail point is the handbrake linkage sticking ...
Anyone know what it is on the Scoobie??

I've just had my second mot and nothing was found to be wrong. The car has just done 50k. I dont know of any common things. If its a my2000 car then there should'nt be much wrong providing it has been well maintained.

I have not had any as yet that have failed on any particular item ...but the plastic anti roll bar links are prone to wear.
BTW Pete...how did your MX-5 get on with the emissions when mot'd??

I HATE MOT's anyone else hate them or am I alone?
I have the dentist on Monday morning and the MOT on the MX5 on Tuesday morning!
THEN, its the Impreza MOT in May!
There are 3 cars in the family (soon to be four!) and everything if fine except the MOT's! (not that they fail, they don't! its just the anticipation!)
Whats the penalty for no MOT?
Has anyone EVER been asked to produce an MOT? I haven't in decades of driving!

So? Steve - is it true that some MOT testing stations see the MOT as purely a way to get work in?
Do you treat a sparkling clean, well maintained car any different to one that comes in that looks like it been on a world rally and never cleaned or serviced?
Do you treat a car brought in by a male who is in oily overalls and clearly knows his stuff, differently, to a little female who doesn't know where the water is supposed to go?
Just interested?

Pete.....we treat all cars the same regardless,it matters not to me if they pass or fail. I do not get extra money for failing a car and will always give the benefit of doubt where applicable.
There are only one set of guidelines......but there may well be other garages out there that have a different view.
VOSA are trying to weed out the dodgy test centres/garages so that the public can be assured that they will get the same standards no matter where they get an MOT.

My scoob passed last 2 MOT's with no problem.
My Saab failed on Friday due to the main beam not working of all things
Worked when I tested it, MOT chap took another look - again didn't work
Anyhoo a £5.15 relay swap fixed it.. cost more in petrol going back and forward to MOT shop and parts shop

my local station is very good,
they take the time to highlight areas of potential failures when carrying out the mot,
when my wifes rover failed, the examiners advised me on how to do the repair, and where to get the parts cheapest... i got them to do it cos i didnt have the time....!!
the scoob went through ok when the cat decided to warm up!!
used a taplow meter to do the brakes,
when my other cars have gone through, they as qsprint stated gave me the
benefit of the doubt on a couple of points.... and they passed at an alternate garage one year later... good call i,d say
