I know I did'nt buy my scooby for its amazing potential to extract miles from gallons but I would like to know how everyone else is doing. I reckon I am getting about 25mpg on average. I am putting up a web site at the moment (nore news when I get it working) email or post your model details and fuel consumption for a comparison

25 mpg !!!! - How old are you? Do you have a blue rinse in your hair ?!!!
I'm sure 20/21 mpg must be average for an addicted Scooby driver. After all you must keep practicing 'emergency starts' just in case......!
I am currently trialling max fuel economy with mine - just to see. I've done a couple of (short)motorway trips where I (eventually managed to get my speed down to 56 mph - folowing lorries! - It was quite comical actually I'm sure alot of drivers were convinced I was a copper !!
I'll let you know how it pans out!

If I can tell the missus 'if you drive carefully you can get 200(?) mpg, then its her fault if she only gets 16 mpg racing blue rinsed grannies in BMW540s !!

one thing you are all forgetting to mention is what kind of engine you all have - now if
V697DMO has a sport well he is doing very well to get 25mpg if he is driving it hard - or he might just have a turbo and doesnt like to abuse his car and have a bigger gob than - well you know what ! Sports rule - keep on trying to smile

Isnt the US gallon 6 pints - still a lot cheaper.
I average - 26 if going slowly on Motorway, behind a lorry doing 55, with a strong tailwind!
20-23 for driving with some 'power runs'
Worst was 16 when continually thrashing it
I have to take 8% off these figures as my sti5 milometer overstates by 8% - conversion correct - original kmph wrong somewhere.

Best I ever got was 35mpg (50mph to brighton and back running in)
worst was 7mpg (donington)
usual weekly figures for me are 24-29's
mostly motorway miles though - I've noticed if I do a lot of "round town" stuff mpg rapidly spirals downwards and as for country lanes

Lee, how do you manage this? - to get over 23 I have to stick to no more than 70 on the Motorway, with no sudden boost changes - otherwise down goes the fuel consumption.
Aaahhh well, the problems of running an Sti.
Has anyone any real experience with the Possum Link - any increases?
Electronic boost controllers would not work either, as your not running boost at a constant 'slow' speed on the motorway

I find myself in the unusual position of having a negative word on the Possum
Fuel consumption worse on steady cruising. Its cos the damn thing is just so sensitive and its easy to touch the throttle slightly yet generate loadsa boost.
However fuel consumption at higher speed better. I think its widely accepted that the std ECU overfuels well when open-loop. (ie on a preset MAP rather than relying on lambda)

the easiest way is to multiply the Litres by 0.22 - less keys to press on your calculator!

I seem to manage about 30mpg if I drive carefully (some town, mostly busy A roads or M-ways at about 60mph, which explains it). For some reason that dips rather when I take the back road route into work

May be I don't understand something but wouldn't "X Miles per Full Tank" be a more relevant and MEANINGFUL measure??? Or if different models have different tank sizes - Miles per Litre?

Afraid not Subarussian litres/100km maybe, but, there are 2 different tank sizes out there 50 and 60 litres.
Also when do you fill up? at 1/4 tank mark, when the light comes on(if you've got one), on the bottom marker?
Anyway I like trying to multiply X litres by 4.54509 in my head

Okay we need to get some kind of perspective on all of this (my 25mpg is not calculated just sounds right, so its probably bollocks but it got everything going did'nt it)
Info required is as follows
Model eg. UK Turbo or UK Sport or 22B, etc
MY eg. 97,98...
Modifications (that would effect mpg, so not Piaa's or furry dice)
Mileage (on the clock, do old cars do better or worse)
Type of driving (what were you doing over the miles you worked out the mpg on, mixed, track, short journeys (inc average journey distance and time?)
Any other info eg. Loading (hard driving, easy right foot, cruising), towing (what weight), sat on M25 for 3 days
If anyone has other suggestions for info required post (or edit this)

I will colate as much data (and qualify it) as possible and post up tables and graphs, when I figure out how using Front page and Excel (anyone have any tips email me, thanks)

If you want good FE stop using the loud pedal as a pump......(and buy a diesel!)
I have a 97MY UK. Driven typically I will get 19-21mpg. This includes 300miles per week commuting. Cruise at 80-90mph
Last week driving with care ie accelerating like treading on an egg. Not accelerating up behind cars and then slowing and then speeding up - just keeping it smooth with the
traffic flow; 27mpg that was 320miles from a tank.....(still cruising at 80-90mph).
It is the acceleration that kills FE.....
If you want good FE stop using the loud pedal as a pump......(and buy a diesel!)

Trying a bit of an experiment this week...
Exteremely boring, but I'm resisting all temptations and keeping the revs under 3K - and if possible, under 2.5K to avoid the turbo cutting in at all
(fortunately this is Dorset, so this kind of driving is fairly typical )
I'm determined to find out if the figures that Subaru UK quote are actually attainable in the real world.
They quote 28 for the combined cycle, yet I've never in the past managed better than 26 - even when I was running it in with long drives in light traffic!
Not that it matters - if I wanted economy I'd have bought a Yaris 1.0!

Getting about 27 to the gallon, and that is a combined run of 130 miles a day:
- about 30 miles of 30mph limit
- about 40 miles of GOOD B road, use 2nd/3rd/4th, often using above 4,000 rpm
- Rest is M3 and M25, never get more than 30 mph average and this is where the economy is better, sitting in 3rd/4th at 30-40mph, I must be doing about 35 to the gallon here.
By the way (spanner in the works time!!) I get better economy with Super Unleaded than Regular, I reckon there is about 2mpg difference (so nearly 10%)
Is this because the engine runs more efficiently on Super?

Average 26.5mpg every tank.
Smooth but 'progressive' driving.
