My thoughts about motoring issues in this country.
Firstly, I agree with the general concensious (sp?) on this board.
However, I would just like to make a comment about the responses many of this BBS's users have had over the last year or so - I'm not going to quote, but you'll get the general idea.
These carjackings (armed or otherwise) and associated theft attempts are terrible. A joke that could probably be sorted, but isnt.
My thoughts really revolve around this last statement.
There have been comments about how bad this country is getting, and that there's nothing we can do about it. I disagree:-
1. WE vote to put the government in power.
2. WE, the tax payer, pay for the law enforcement in this country
3. There is something we can do about it, to make the powers-that-be listen. It isn't just Scoobynet, but every car owner/club's issue. a UNIFIED comment to government is required.
4. Point 3 is as broad as it is long - it can be applied to serious crime too.
5. The UK is OUR country - we employ everybody to run it for us.
Perhaps I'm being idealistic, and I might feel a bit more aggro if my Scoob/family had been threatened (touch wood, never), there has to be things we, the car driving MAJORITY of this country can do. Maybe nothing will happen, but we can at least be heard (no, I'm not putting myself forward for a job )
What does everybody reckon?

Hi Dan!
We have the vote but what choice are we offered? I suspect that the root of the problem here is that people are too lethargic and simply 'make do'. If lots of people wrote letters/emails to their MP's on a regular basis about the issues maybe they'd twig that there are votes in it and quite often the floating votes make all of the difference.
It's not just MP's that make a difference. So much motoring related policy seems to be cooked up by idiots. For example, in Kettering (Northants) my sadly departed Grandma lived on an average street with no real speeding or parking issues, I'd stayed there quite alot so had a grasp of the way the road was used. Anyway, one week I go to visit and the road had loads of chicanes (?) and had turned the street in to residents parking only. The result was that I experienced many near misses on the road because up numpties not understanding who's right of way it was..... The local council turned a safe road in to a nightmare. I'm sure that someone somewhere had good intentions but from my understanding local residents are not consulted and what qualifications do these people have?
MP's never seem to be concerned with the trends in car crime, I can't remember these issues ever being raised? Then there is the dreadful state of roads. Lots of speed cameras but I've yet to see one close to many schools or town centres. No one seems to indicate these days but driving tests are supposed to be harder to pass? Road rage is a real issue but when I experienced some large helping of this the other week with baby in car the police weren't interested telling me that it's a civil matter.
Meanwhile we pay huge taxes on fuel, car tax, tax on insurance etc etc...
Sorry, this is all stating the obvious but as you say, we pay these people, we should get off our backsides and use the democratic process to effect the changes we need.
:-)

Add to this the massive rises in council tax, and what for??? more speed bumps, chicanes, housing of immigrants e.t.c.
All it boils down to, as has been pointed out, is our don't give a toss / live with it attitude of this country.
What we need is leadership and I feel Dan is deffo the best for the job, since he is the one who can be bothered to get off his **** and write a thread about it!!

Don't YOU start KingRA!!
We need somebody of whom is upstanding in the commmunity (in general) - it's gotta be PS Lewis for obvious reasons.
1. Being of a mature stature, he'll be respected
2. Being loaded, he'll be able to bankrole a campaign
3. He's got a UK Scooby
Downsides -
umm, he's got an MX5
There you are a perfect candidate - any other nominations? (and not for me!!!!)
