Discounts on P1's?
#1
This may be naive but....I have a P1 on order with delivery expected shortly. Has anyone wangled a discount (or inflated part exchange)from a dealer on this car? The car is (arguably) overpriced anyway, reviews have been mixed, the new car market is in disarray, the delay in delivery means that the 'new' Impreza is just round the corner and supply has been eased by making 1,000 of the beasts rather than the original 500. I fear that, given the above, the residuals on the P1 will be poor and I want the dealer to share the pain. Any tips greatly appreciated.

I believe everything in your above statement is true, hence I kept my STI V5 insted of ordering a P1 at the motor show. But so many people wanted the reasurance of the subaru UK warranty that all 1.000 are taken or so they say.May be if everyone had thought for a while about just how much that warranty is worth against the price of an imported V6 through a decent importer. Then may be the price could of been fixed lower.
I really don't think the 3 year warranty is worth the extra £6/7k but 999 of you did thus my friend no discount for you, sorry.

This is a bit of a sore point for me at the moment Mike.
My P1 is at SGT at the moment ready for me to collect.
I piad fuul wack for the car, full wack for the brake upgrade and fuul price for the backbox.
I even got charged for fitting the backbox, and the damn thing is on backorder!
I took my car for atrade in price(a truly mint 5 door with all the extras) and was told that they would want to sell the car for £14999. They offered me £13250 part exchange.
HANG ON THATS FULL BLOODY WACK FOR THE NEW CAR PLUS EXTRAS AND THEY WANT TO MAKE NEARLY £2000 ON A CAR THAT REQUIRES NO MONEY TO BE SPENT ON IT TO RE-SELL.
To be honest I am completely pi***d off with Subaru and the whole motoring industry.

Ian,
As far as I can tell only about 500 people have actually bought a P1 the rest seem to be with dealers as demonstrators. Which they will then try to sell on at a premium after they have had their fun.

Not sure they have only sold 500. My dealer has a waiting list still of people that cant order a P1. They keep applying for more cars.

I got a 10% discount on the Prodrive Parts and spoke nicely to my dealer about fitting. SGT sales are not known for their sales and customer relationship skills. Graham in service however is great. Ive had a couple of mates try to buy Scoobies from them but gave me an earfull on their attitude.
Ian
Maybe an STI V sorry P1 is not worth the premium, but my old STI V had a Warranty Holdings warranty which judging by other threads on here is worthless. So Craig H not only has a rebuild to pay for, but a loan car costs also need to be factored in. Not forgetting the stress attached. Now my 3/4k premium seems all the more worth it.
Jonathan
happy P1 owner

Well Traque Marques gave me warranty on my imported new V5, I haven't had to use it yet touch wood but its one of the firms that everyone would use once the factory warranty expired on various UK makes.
...Ian very very happy STI V5 owner Amen!

I too have a P1. My only view on getting a P1 rather than an STi is that from speaking to various independant people, they tell me that the P1 is a better car (6K better is for debate..) for UK roads.
The other side of the coin for me is that I do a lot of miles (and change every 18-24 months), so a UK car will full warranty is a must.
The dealer trying to make 2K on you car, will be the same I'm affraid everywhere - I too have this with MY99.
I have the rear box & wheels on order - the dealer has not told me about fitting - if they try I will tell them what to do with it! I suggest you stand firm o0n it.
Also, on the other point of how many have been ordered my dealer has people in the Q for one.

My dealer informs me that they have a waiting list, but then offered me a position on that list due to people(speculators)dropping out. It seems they haven't all been sold yet....
Has anyone got discounts on UK turbo's yet now that there is no waiting list?
This may have been discussed already but the same dealer has just got a Mitsubishi franchise and will be servicing EVO imports along side UK EVO's....
F (happy with UK MY99, not happy with residuals!)

I phoned a few dealers a couple of months ago asking about P1 availability. All could supply with differing timescales.
Have since bought an Evo 6, but was surprised to get a call this week from one of the dealers saying they had a P1 available immediately.
I don't think they are selling themselves, as much as Subaru would like us to think, if dealers are actively chasing leads.
If anyone wants details of the dealer, please email me.
Regards

MikeB,
Cancel your order loose just your deposit which will be less than what you are likely to in residual value on the P1. Sit tight until the new model appears and then evaluate it against the P1. By this time if you still want the P1 you should be able to pick one up nearly new second hand with someone else taking the depreciation hit and save money in the long run and choose which car you want P1 or new impreza.
Apologies for the change in topic:
I think that the P1 and Ford racing Puma being only available in this country is clearly the last throw of the dice of the manufactures trying to cash in on car buyers in this country before people finally wise up to car prices in general. The only way for the whole market to settle is to gain stability by setting prices similar to those seen on the continent, this is starting to happen with some manufacturers but IM are trying not to loose control. The answer is to completely boycot the purchase of tne new model until prices are the same everywhere.

Just been to see my dealer to sort out some stuff with my P1 order. He currently has two P1s ready for immediate delivery!
It really does sound like demand for the car is nowhere near as strong as Subaru would have us believe.
I think Subaru have shot themselves in the foot with this one. The delays in delivery have meant that the new model Impreza is nearly upon us, and I think that a lot of the speculators who placed deposits are now backing out.
On the flip side, I am quite happy with my decision to get a P1, especially as I've just discovered that my company insurance policy will let me do track days

Hi guys,
Melvilles of Dundee road (Scotland), have an unreg. P1 for sale. List price and no trade in, was what I was quoted. Not as though I'm interested myself, waiting to see what the new car looks like and hopefully by early next year, the market might have improved a bit.
Have fun folks....
