Hi Katie, welcome to SN
I would suggest taking it to a scoob specialist. Someone like TSL or BRM?
If you're in the NW, theres Jap Innovations in Oldham, they regularly attend our local club meet and are always more than happy to help. And no, I dont work for them.
Good luck

Welcome bird.
Few questions for you...
- Are you certain that whatever caused the engine failure has been sorted (in addition to the rebuild)?
- Since the rebuild, have you followed the correct "running in" procedure?
- Are there any mods or is it standard?
- Does it do it off boost, on boost, or both?
- Does it make any difference if the engine's warm or cold?
- Do you have gauges such as boost, AFR, Knocklink, and if so, what are they telling you?
- Do you know if your MAF and lambda sensors are OK?
- Is your oil level halfway between min and max?
- Have you tried cleaning your wastegate solenoid...?

I think the best advice would be to find somebody in your vicinity that was knowledgable, honest and reliable. Diagnosing faults by e-mail on limited information is not likely to produce much success.

Welcome to SN - if you ever return that is.
You'll probably get better answers with as much detail as possible and post it in "drivetrain" or "general technical".
where's your manners lads?
ps katie - are you single?

YOU PERVERSE SEXIST LOAD OF YOBS
Thats no way to treat a lady, especially one with a scooby.
OK back on topic, perhaps the problem is MAF related.
Are you sure your MAF is good ?
And more importantly ......errr ..what are you wearing?
Seriously,it might affect the performance.

Hello
Thank you all for your replys!!! Didn't scare me off not yet anyway. lol.
Thanks for the post of the picture. hmmmm not sure if it looks quite like me but not far off my hair isn't that frizzy i found ghd's!!!!
Back to the car i've got an air to fuel gauge and since the hesitation started it seems to run rich alot of the time. The hesitation is worse when first started in every gear on and off boost between 2 and 3 thousand revs it bogs down but if you accelerate it pushes through it.
The reason the engine was re - build was because the previous owner ran it to hard on the wrong fuel and melted everything.
But the engine was built and run in properly on opitmax with no problems!!
Whats going on ?????
French knickers ????

OOh
thats nice.
what colou.......
Oh yes the car
Well the melting could have been caused by a faulty mass air flow sensor (MAF)
Although wrong grade of fuel would do the same thing, a faulty MAF is more common.
Best to get it to a specialist ASAP,th eonly way to be sure.
Now what was I saying.........oh yes
the colour?

The MAF sensor is located in the tube immediately after the air filter, you'll see the connectors and wiring coming off it. Unfortunately though there's no real way of testing it, apart from swapping a new one in and seeing if the symptoms go away.
Incidentally, if you've been running the car on Optimax alone, THIS IS NOT THE PROPER FUEL FOR YOUR CAR and may result in another meltdown/blow-up.
If you have a Japanese import, it needs to be run on Optimax plus the correct amount of a good octane booster. Neglecting this is risking the future of your newly rebuilt engine!
BTW, try and ignore the little boys, this always happens when a new girl transfers to the school.

Hey Miss Katie,
I've had exactly the same problem. When I first bought my car the muppet had filled it with too much oil. The excess oil found it's way into the boost solenoid and the net result was what your describing. It's an easy fix, empty some of the excess oil, clean the boost solenoid with some brake cleaner (or similar) and reset the ecu.
If you're in the London area, come around this weekend and I'll clean that dirty little solenoid for you.... oh behave!
