Basically any ECU mod is only as good as the person who does the map.
Also if you are planning on a few upgrades the ECU should be your last mod, as each time you change anything, i.e filter / downpipe etc. the map will need to be changed.
I've had very good results from my PE phase 1 (not available for 99/00 cars) some people have had problems with it. Current favorite seems to be the LINK ECU which replaces the standard JECS ECU totally and which is remappable in situ via a realatively cheap unit from Link or a laptop.
I don't know anyone who is unhappy with the power gains they have got from their ECU upgrade.
To expand on the Superchips ECU mod, what they do is raise the boost (via a bleep valve
I belive) and then fit a boost clamp to the ECU thats reduces the voltage signal that tells the ECU what boost you are running, hence the ECU will be using fuelling and ignition values for say 0.8 bar when you are actually running 1.0 bar. Errr got to be carefull here, this can be risky.
Something to consider whichever ECU you get is a knockLINK (cost about £100) which will tell you if the engine begins to det (pre ignition) any other problem is an iconvienience (i.e too rich = higher fuel consumption) but det can grenade your engine. In fact if you are doing track work with an STi I would get one anyway.
Unfortunatley a lot of people have very firm opinions about ECU's and these threads can become slanging matches, best bet is to come along to a track day or meet, at track days you'll find a lot of people with ECU mods who'll be happy to talk.
Once you've tasted the power you'll never go back

I'd do a search on the following
LINK ECU / Possum Link
Superchip
AKAIK the Power Engineering and Unichip cannot be used on MY00 cars.
Generally the consensous is that the Superchip is dangerous as fuelling and ignition are not mapped, it fools the ECU into seeing lower boost.

NO.....You have all got it wrong!
It's not the engine mods that cause the problems. It's the fact that they are being applied to a chocolate built engine!!!!!![](http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif)

hi all.
i have a superchip with a avc-r bc if you do not go nuts
with the boost and are within the ecu map , then all will be ok , if searching for for more power then go the programable ecu way but then something else might fail.
