Default sti v5 type spoiler

Bit of a question...
How fast does you car have to be travelling before an sti v5 spoiler actually becomes effective and has a benefit to the handling of your car??

Are these speeds actually achievable on a public highway without the risk of losing your licence??

Isn't it the same for all spoilers? They become effective around 110 km an hour (an engine engineer who spent 17 years with PSA engine research told me that).

I think in general its approximately 70mph before you get any aerodynamic downforce.

aparently they work straight away even before u start the engine, them genuine fake copied ones are the best as they were definitely made with aerodynamics in mind.

they do look nice though, my vague point is that if someone went "aye i got that cus it looks swheet", id say fair enough, i just laugh at people who think they have to explain why they bought so they dont feel that they are Boyracers

stickymicky i see the point but honestly how much is the rear of an impreza going to lift up?
I can understand it on say a ferrari, porshe or f1 car but the most you would get from a scoob is say 140-160? and how often do you travel at that speed? (not that you would go that fast in a ferrari of course, what with a 70mph maximum speed limit )

i would agree that most drivers arent going to do them sort of speeds

remember the audi TT`s that slid about
remember the tiny spoilers that were added as part of a package to make them "safer"

i couldnt see the spoilers just being fitted "to look good"

The spoilers do work very well.
The bigger the wing, the greater the down force.
It doesnt matter which car you put it on,it will give you better handling at high speeds due to the down force.
The shape of the roof generates lift in almost all cars and the only way to counter it is with a spoiler.

However, the size required is debatable. If the cars are not meant to go over 70 mph then a spoiler is pretty much useless.Question is,how often do people break the law and go over 100mph?
IMO ,I think a spoiler is very usefull, and the STi 5/6 spoilers realy do help, considering they can go 160mph.

Ive driven a STi 4 with the mid spoiler and it feels very different from a STi 5 at high speeds.

I figured that the spoilers got taller to "reach" into the airstream as the air came over the top of the car.
I have been known to talk bollix on occasions though lol
Personally, I got mine cos my dick ain't big enough

It's a myth.

The airflow had to be smoothed out because the convertible version was ruining the carefully coiffered barnets of their drivers.
