Question

When I bought my MY00 scoob the dealer was very keen to point out how important it was not to put too much oil in. No higher than the F. This, he said, was one of the most common ways to cause a fault with the car.

This sounded like good advice but since I was not going to service the car myself I thought no more about it.

After its 1K service (from a different garage) I find the oil is higher than the F but not as high as the little notch in the side of the stick ( I assume all MY00s have these). I am a bit worried, since the car is so new and since modern cars use up so little oil, I expect that the level will remain about the same until the next service.

Should I do anything about it? Any comments?

Ring them up and mention it. If it really concerns you, ask the original dealer where you bought it to ring them up.

My std UK turbo MY00 never uses any oil. At least the level on the dipstick never moves. Maybe it is painted on!!!

Question

erm, what exactly are you worried about. If its between the F and the notch it will be fine. Oil also thickens in the cold and this can make the reading seem high. Capacity is between 4.5 and 5 litres - i am sure the garage dont give away oil deliberately.

Run the engine and then turn off, allow oil to drain back and then check level.
