Default looking to buy a scooby type r

Hi

I am new to the scooby scene, so please be patient as I dont know much. Hence why I'm here asking for advice.

I am looking at buying a scooby type r.

Could anyone give any advice on what to look for or which version is better, and type of price I should be paying.

I have been looking and the avergage price is around the £10-£12k mark

Sorry for all the questions, but hope some of you can help.

Cheers

Dan

check out www.sidc.co.uk as they normally have the best info

Ok, the type r came with no ABS but does have a centre diff control (puts power transfer front/rear).
10-12k will probably get you a version 4 (phase 1 engined car) on an R or S reg, for a decent newer version 5 it will probably cost you 2k more.
You can only run this car on super unleaded/optimax and octane booster, you will need a knocklink (do a search) and be wary of mods as this can cause you problems if done incorrectly.
The type R is a 2 door version, you could if you wanted look for a type RA limited which is a 4 door version, depending on what your after. Servicing is 7.5k miles or 6 months, whichever is first, these wont be cheap on a 6 year old car so be warned (you could have a bill of around 6-700 quid coming your way )
Id say more but im off to bed cos im knackered
Just look at the sidc website, it should answer most of your questions

Silly question, but why are you looking at a Type R specifically?

Could anyone give any advice on what to look for or which version is better,
The STi Type R's are obviously better than the WRX Type R's, and the newer ones are better than the older ones.

and type of price I should be paying.
Depends whether you're talking about a WRX or an STi, and of what model year(or version number in the case of the STi).

Sorry for all the questions, but hope some of you can help.
Sorry to sound blunt, but before you waste a load of both your time and ours, it might be a good idea to first you first find an insurer who will give you a quote. At 22, and in the current climate, your chances aren't too good. If you do find an insurer, the premium is likely to be considerable, which may affect your budget and purchasing choices.

Give Tesco's a call, I think they will be your best bet. You will need a Tracker monitor fitted to whatever Type R you go for.

Good luck, their great cars.

Hang on people,

I was 21 one I bought my 98 STi Type R, on my own insurance ( 2 yrs NCB ) 3 points.

Awesome car, mine i booked in at Prosport in two weeks for some "neccesary" engine work, lol! Bring on the beast, then mine will probably be for sale as either a 2.2 or 2.5.

IMO, I would without doubt follow the dream of owning a Subaru, and what better to start with.................a Type R.

Good Luck mate, if you need help with insurance, send me a PM.

Andy
