full decat - **** the wishy washy dudes who mention road-side inspections - never happens to 99% of peeps - if it does just get it MOT'd at a friendly MOT station the next day to show it is now legal..
don't worry - just enjoy the fricking car

If you de-cat I'd think about getting a TeK3 re-map.

Unhappy

I would suggest a remap with an STi decat. You tend to blow your engine up otherwise.

As long as you monitor engine activity with a knocklink and lambdalink there is no need for a remap after full de cat.A lot of this re map nonsense is scaremongering although it is fair to say that all engines respond differently to different mods.I also have a 1998 sti type r and my knocklink displays no det or spikes at all so i suggest you get a knocklink and keep an eye on it before shelling out un necessarily.

In my opinion the Hayward and Scott downpipe give the best results (certainly the best sound ) although there are different downpipes being launched all the time, ive tried HKS and mongoose downpipes and they certainly dont come anywhere near the power gains of the H&S not in my experience anyway,im sure someone will tell you different

PJ - you say your car is a 98 - but are you sure it's not an MY99?
I thought the 5's were MY99. Is it a late 98 S plate in which case it is an MY99?
What i'm saying is that a 1998 car can still be an MY99 - if your car isn't then a TEK is a no no
