Default oil level and bag of spanners noise!

Hi,

Ever since I had my MY04 wagon it sounds like a bag of spanners when starting from cold. I always check oil level, but find it hard to get the same reading each time! It looked a little low (after 10 dips I guessed I was almost at the Minimum mark) - so I added about 1/4 litre. and guess what - no bag of spanners anymore! Silky smooth even first thing in morning! Sure its quieter on the road also...

My dealer told me not fill above half way cos oil vapour can screw with something - but cant believe I can 'hear' a difference with 1/4 litre! Imagine the wear that must be goin on!

Im due for 1st 10k service in a couple of weeks, so will get them to check!

Default Oil levels

I've found this too on my WRX 03. Not the noise but a lot of oil being used and topping it up frequently and less than accurate reading from dipstick.

Hi I've got a WRX03 to. The topic of oil levels and noise on startup keep re-occruing (as it would if so many peeps have this problems).

buzz_lightyear,
I challenged Subaru UK about the oil level and they told me filling it too much would result in excess oil being thrown into the turbo causing performance problems.

Like yourself it didn't make a great deal of sense to me so I just keep checking regular and top up if needed.
