Who would win?

car washes look to be much less hassle.

I don't think I'd ever have the courage to put mine through a car wash, but wondered if anyone had and if anything untoward happened?

I heard a story a while back about a 22B seen in London without a rear wing. Pretty individual I thought, and asked Anders about it one day. He told me it was the result of a 22B/petrol station carwash incident! These 22's aren't that well put together though.

My dealer has stated that some carwashes can be a problem, depending on the type of rear spolier you've got. Mine is a 99 Turbo with the raised arch type rear wing, but not as big as the sti or 22B. The problem lies with the type of auto drier that uses an electronic eye to follow the contours of the car while it dries. It looks like a large thin fan heater??

Apparently it is possible for it to try and go 'through' the spoiler, (ow!), ripping it off in the process.
Taking into account that all garage carwashes have a disclaimer against damage on them, I have steered well away and either used a soft brush jetwash if its filthy, or handwash if I'm feeling very energetic.

Ive got a huge STI5 rear qing and it goes through car washes fin, the sensors in the car wash detect it and just pass it smoothly!

Too lazy to wash the car by hand.

Took my STi6 in one - the dryer clobbered the wing and took a very small amount of paint off. - Don't do it.

Aw, come on! Car washes? If you really want to achieve those unusual halo scratches on your paintwork, why not just wash your car with a Brillo pad?!
Are all you lazy folk the same people who rave about Wax Wizard? I think we should be told. I'll be on the lookout for a new paintwork style on the streets: burnished steel!

I too have taken mine into one, (I have a MY99 rear wing, and 17in Speedlines) Don't do it! The front right wheel got a little scraped and the dryer caught the back spoiler - luckily and surprisingly no damage at all to the spoiler but the beloved wheel had a little pain

Used Charlie Brown's car wash for 12 months with my Scooby. Most people thought I washed it by hand. No problems. Never polished the car the wax in the car wash done a wonderfull job of keeping it with a shine on.

There is only one place to wash your car, Grime Stoppers at Staples Corner (the start of the M1). Just slowly drive your car through the wash and it's cleaned & polished by hand! They do the inside, clean the wheels and even put that special blackening stuff on the tyres.

Should be worth a free wash or two!

Nope, I'd rather do it by hand. If my car has to pick up tiny scratches, I'd rather know they were my own fault, rather than sit at home furious because some tongue-chewing sponge monkey had lathered a pound and a half of grit into the bodywork.

I've found that using a jet wash at a petrol station is just soo much better. £1.99 for a power wash and rinse , and the car comes up like brand new and looks like it has been waxed. Easy job that takes a whole 5 mins. (2 walks around the car at slow pace)

i cant beleive you lot spend x amount on such a car, claim to be more enthusiastic about them than the ordinary motorist and then put the the fecking thing through the torcher of a automatic car wash.
