Question ***WRX STI VERSION 5 TYPE RA V-LIMITED***

looking to buy a version 5 ra v-ltd (4 door) and then modify it under the bonnet! BUT there is a lot of jargon that i don't understand but would like to know with your help!

so what on earth do the following mean and of what benefit are they to the actual vehicle : DCCD, KNOCK-LINK, LAMBDA LINK, MAF SENSOR, ECU-REMAP (is this done after the de-cat?)... & who would you recommend in the UK to actually carry out the above?

+ do you guys/gals have other suggestions/ideas to get extra bhp/torque

Good Choice of car
DCCD= Driver contoled centre diff. (potentiometer dial to vairy torque split between f & r wheels)

KLink: Monitors detonation

LambdaLink: Measured AF ratio

MAF: Mass Airflow Meter

ECU Remap: Reseting the perameter in the ecu: Boost,Fueling,Timeing, etc.

There are lots of good tuners capable of doing this kind of work.

All the best in finding a good V5 RA, good ones are rare and quite expensive now.

To be honest you don't need our help to answer most of these questions, you could find perfectly good answers to the bulk of them by clicking the Search button further up the page. Still, just this once...

so what on earth do the following mean and of what benefit are they to the actual vehicle : DCCD,
As has been said above, this stands for driver controlled centre differential. Gives the car a rear-axle power bias, plus an adjustable limited slip function. There's loads been written on this, so Search is your friend.

KNOCK-LINK, LAMBDA LINK,
The KnockLink gives you a visual indication of detonation, which is something that will break your engine if it happens a lot. The LambdaLink (and other AFR meters) will give you a visual indication of the air:fuel ratio the engine is running at, which again helps give you confidence that your engine is running within safe parameters.

MAF SENSOR
This device is used by the ECU to calculate the amount of air flowing into the engine. Its readings are then used to calculate the correct amount of fuel to inject when the car is under boost.

ECU-REMAP (is this done after the de-cat?)
Remapping the ECU just means reprogramming it in some way or other - usually to tune more power out. In general it should be done after physical modifications have been made to the engine and intake/exhaust systems. As for recommendations, there are a variety of people able to carry out this sort of job, look around the forum yourself and form your own opinions rather than taking our word for it.

+ do you guys/gals have other suggestions/ideas to get extra bhp/torque
First thing to make sure of is that your car is running safely as standard before you start messing about with it. That means running it on the correct fuel, and making sure it's boosting and fuelling properly, a job that will be made much easier by the addition of a KnockLink and AFR meter.
