Im starting to use the scoob only at weekends out here, so on my posting to the UK I am used to only running it at weekends, although that will be because of cost of running.
Cos out here i run her on tax free V power 100 ron
I do feel for you peeps in the UK tho

costs just as much to run a second car as you save in petrol, unless you have motor traders insurance like me!, and have astra diesel estate run on cooking oil and white spirit!

I really really care - this week anyway! Wish it would drop 10p / litre and stay there.
Actually I'm just sick of these threads and getting them on email!
Did you work out SIAL yet julian N/W wrx my93?

It makes sence unless you have money to burn !!
bit like non-company car drivers choosing diesel cars. Unless you drive to the moon and back it doesn't really save you money, bearing in mind additional cost of diesel car, and cost per litre.

Me - I've done the maths.
I do 30,000 miles per year (and pay for my own fuel) and I bought a Primera diesel to take to "shady and dodgy" parts!! However, the saving is a welcome bonus.
For every 10,000 miles I do in it, the fuel economy saving for me pays for insurance, 12 months road tax and a service. Remember it saves not just fuel to the Impreza, but also brake, tyre and clutch wear, a service (and I give it an intermediate oil service too) and also devaluation of the car due to excessive mileage.
The Primera has a great chassis and I can drive it flat out (as it is not fast at all) and push it to the limit. If I keep the car for at least two years (I'v had it 8 months - same as the Scoob - bought the same week) then the pennies I paid for the car plus about £600 extras including tyres, minor repairs, Scorpion alarm, etc will also be paid for out of the saving.
The Scoob will have at least 25,000 less miles on it and I will have saved at least 1 set of brake pads (disc skimming too), 4 17" tyres, at least 2 services and 2 oil services, kept it within the 60,000 miles warranty and saved on depreciation too. If I then sell the Primera I will probably get more than I paid for it etc.
A total bargain - you do not always have to drive the Impreza every day to appreciate it - I enjoy driving cars and that includes the Primera.
Makes perfect sense to me!
Brian.

Surely the point is this: the bulk of the price of petrol in this country is tax. Approximately 70%. Much more so in comparison to other countries esp. USA (although catching up-ish). We also pay road tax dependent (partly) on how much fuel we burn (CO2 emmissions). This revenue is supposed to be ploughed back into our countries roads and public transport systems, not to mention environmental issues. Well the way I see it is this. The roads around my town are sh*te, public transport systems are sh*te, any obvious heed to environmental issues is negligible and yet even more attempts are made at extracting cash from motorists such as congestion charges, speeding fines, excessive city parking charges.....the list is endless. The bottom line is I DO grudge every increment of a penny of petrol price rises, in the face of neglect of all of the above. I doubt the emmissions coming out of my Subaru's backside are anywhere close (proportionally) to that of the backside of Western civilisations industry, yet WE have to pay for the bulk of this in our taxes (taxes we have already paid when we purchase the products of industry). Rant over!

How much tax is on our 89 pence per litre ?
If you steal £40 worth of the stuff and you get caught. Do you get done for stealing £5 worth of petrol ( its actual worth ).
Or do you get done for £35 tax evasion ?
Or maybe both.......
If you dont get caught, do you enjoy the 250 miles driving, more than you would if you had payed....?
Well dont ask me, I dont know.

From: Lots of different places! (Thank you Mr. Lambert)
Exactly, as would everyone else so the roads would be even more crowded - all the more reason for putting the price up rather than down.
Come on Gordon - more fuel duty please!

Don't really have a problem with petrol prices just the fact we pay more tax than virtually any other nation, the roads are a state and then the police go gunning for motorists as we are an easy target compared to proper criminals.
