The prodrive upgrade on the new Sti's is two grand.....seems like a fortune for a 'mere' 40bhp. Does anyone know if this really makes much difference and if it is worth doing? I just remember my cosworth days when for 2g you could go from 227 bhp to about 335 and the difference was massive.....and the stage one which took the cossie to 275 bhp was noticeable but not that great and only cost a few hundred quid.

Anyones thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Maybe ask your dealer for a test drive in a ppp'd model to see if you feel its worth the upgrade?

It makes a big subjective difference. Basically the car responds like it did in a lower gear. E.g 4th feels like 3rd, 3rd feels like 2nd. It also makes the car a lot more drivable in that the flat spot <3000 revs is greatly reduced, but this is at the expense of the WHAM when it does take off. I.e the car accellerates smoother and faster, but it does'nt seem a lot quicker till you look down. There are lots of PPP'd Sti within the dealer network now, so the best bet is to try one.

Other tuners offer similar upgrades(Check Evo mag 2 months ago I think) but these will invalidate your Subaru Warranty, so how important that is to you only you can answer.

I agree, pulls lower down through each gear, a Standard STI feels like a normally aspirated 2L car until 4000, but with PPP the boom comes in at 3000 and its more pronounced, different back box makes it sound far better giving a far nicer burble in low revs and rasp when you floor it.

I also agree that 2k is alot of money, but the package has been extensively tested and is designed specifically for that car. 2K would buy alot of aftermarket mods but they all invalidate your warranty and could have reliability impacts, which in the long run could make 2k feel like small change.

If you want extra ooooomph with your STI then PPP is the only way to go IMHO.

I bought my STi last summer and ordered the PPP at the same time. I had the PPP fitted when it had its 1,000 mile service so never really got the chance to compare before and after.

However, if you have heard classic scoobies rumbling about and sounding menacing on tickover then the PPP backbox will not provide this for you

I hve just gone for a Firestorm backbox and centre section and its just the job for myself, and will be investing in a TSL remap as well shortly for that extra bit of zip

in hindsight I wish I hadn't gone the PPP route, but I did this so I could have the warranty, but then I realised I wasn't enjoying the car like I did my Escort Cosworth when buying upgrades etc. Hence I thought bugger it and have now liberated myself from warrantyville

how important is the warranty to you, thats the question, if its not don't PPP and go aftermarket as you'll get more bangs for your buck, hopefully not literally
