Exclamation Arrrh finding fuel!

Just got through my first full tank of optimax in MY04 WRX (PPP to be added). I filled up at a Shell garage near where I bought the car.

So last night I needed to fill up again (in my home area near East of reading). Went to TOTAL on the A4 first. No super unleaded.

Went to a JET garage - super unleaded was 97 (I need / want 98).

Went to the large new BP garage on the A4. Found super unleaded (only 97 but was getting desperate by then). Tried to fill the car but the pump would not start. Then notice that the garage has a new system (new one on my anyway) were auto cameras check out your number place before the pump will activate (??). Well not sure if its because the car is days old but the pump refused to let me full up.

Now, I’m really grrrrr. My quest to find a near by Shell station failed and I had to resort to another local BP station and fill up on super unleaded 97 at 90 pence per litre. Grrrrrr !!!

Is the Shell fuel the only 98 ron stuff available?

Anyone recommend a decent website with garage date / types of fuel / prices etc

Many thanks

Mark

Optimax is the only 98 ron out there IIRC, but this can degrade with time if it's been sitting about in a tank for a while ,other places for super are BP (ultimate), Q8 (debate as to whether it's 98 or97), Esso, Sainsburys(cheapest)

Check out this website and fill in your details. Don't forget to tick the 'Shell Optimax' box ... and then Robert's your father's brother. Good luck Jim

Here in sunny Bristol we're blessed with 7 Optimax refill spots ... decisions, decisions

I'm having a nightmare with the fuel thing too.... Closest garage that sells super from me is the 12 mile mark - shed load of garages around me but none sell super unleaded...

Links below are very handy indeed

You don't have to fill a MY04 WRX with Optimax, it will be fine on normal 97 RON SUL, even with PPP.

Should be okay on NUL if you are really desperate, but not recommended in the long term.

Esseo have started to do 98RON now. some still say 97 on th pump. an on-going argument this but i'd rather fill up at BP/Esso knowing i'll get a min of 97/98 RON than at Shell where it could be as low as 95....
