Question Can Anyone Tell Me........

We have a MY 04 STi version 8 scooby and we want to fit a sunstrip to windscreen. The main problem is how to get the rear view mirror off, is it stuck to screen with a sticky pad and will we be able to put it back on again?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance .........

Yank it off, use WD40 to remove the residual glue. Prior to that, visit you local windscreen repair place for a new sticky pad. I'm sure the dealers will have them too, and maybe Halfrauds.

That will work but you will run the chance of breaking the mirror, try using a piece of fishing line (the stronger the better) and pulling it down behind the sticky pad using a sawing motion, then follow as above with WD40, might be best though to use some meths/alcohol to clean everything off after using the WD40.

Why not stick it to the outside of the window? (assuming its a vinyl one)

It doesn't appear to be a sticky pad. It looks like it clips on to another piece on the windscreen...... and I thought it woz gonna be easy to put a sunstrip on. How wrong could I have been

I remmember trying to fit a sunstrip to a mk1 golf gti a few years ago, one of those £1.99 jobs, each time I got one side to stick to the screen the other side would peel off, got me so mad I punched the screen from the inside and broke it. Ended up having to by a new screen but made sure it had a tinted sunstrip in it.

The mirror attaches to a fitting that comes prefitted to the windscreen.
It does NOT use a sticky pad.
You may be able to remove the fitting.
A replacement screen is about £300 fitted with a new seal and foam dam (part of the fitting kit you need), should you break it.

How much do you want a sunstrip?

Genuine Subaru Windscreen for MY02 STI (should be the same as the MY04) is £141.58.
Dam Rubber £19.44.
Screen Moulding £34.19.
All + VAT + fitting of about £55 = £294 total including the VAT.

If you break the screen.

Edited to say prices were at March this year, they may have come down in price.

Cheers
