Service intervals on import WRX
Hi
Just got my service manual through for my 04 WRX the other day. Car has come originally from Malta, but gutted at the service intervals :
1000 miles
3000 miles
9000 miles
then every 5000 !
I am sure that someone a bit ago said that on a car sourced from Malta there's was 1000, then every 7500 miles.
Wondering if I have been given a STI service book by mistake ?? I think they are every 5000 miles.
Dealer I took it to yesterday could not believe how frequent they were compared to UK car intervals.
Anyone one else out there with a car from Liaco in Malta, or other EU imports ?
Cheers

EU warranty (as Malta is now in the EU) does not mean EU service intervals. If you have driven in Malta you know what the roads are like and that the car will swallow a hell of a lot of dust, operate at high temperatures, and that annual mileages will be relatively low. Therefore the more frequent service intervals are sensible.
There is a chance that letters to Subaru Malta will get you permission to lengthen the service intervals because of the more benign environment in which your car is being operated. However as warranty claims eventually have to be approved by them, I wouldn't hold my breath.
Re-arrange the following into a well known phrase: cost hidden

If your car is a UK spec, which it should be from Malta, then stick to the UK service intervals of 10k, and you can do your own oil changes in between, say every 3-4000 miles.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I have been in touch with Subaru Malta and have had a response back from them. Apparently I only have to have the services that are greyed out in the book to maintain the warranty, the ones not greyed out inbetween are only required if the car is heavily used or in a hostile environment. So it will now look like this :
1k - Required ( just had )
3k - Not Req
9 k - Required
14k - Not required
19k - Required
24k - Not Req
28 k - Req
Etc
Me = Lot happier now, intervals are nearly identical to the UK cars. I must say they were extremely helpful and glad to help.
Maybe time to think about the PPP kit now that I have all this money extra that won't be needed for servicing.......
