The Sad day has come
Unfortunately today I sold my Scoob for a Fabia VRS (and no it wasn't an impulse buy because of top gear's race).
Won't be picking it up for about a week but never thought I would be so unhappy about getting a new car.
Relocation to Rep of Ireland has forced it upon me.
Whatever complaints you might have had about cost of UK insurance it is a bargain compared to Ireland.
Moving from South London to rural Ireland means my insurance goes from £700 to £3,500 and this coupled to a big increase in my yearly milage means it just wouldn't be practical.
I know everyone has their opinions on Scoobs versus other cars and even which Scoob is best but even though mine was a std bugeye (less popular I know) it was still a cracking car.

Don't worry, join lots of other ex scoob owners at www.briskoda.net
(and yes, some of them went to fabia's also)

I tried 15 different insurers. 13 refused to quote at all and the two that did quoted 5,000 and 8,000 euros.
The 5,000 was from a friends insurers for the same car but I could not get a price anywhere near what he had (2,900 euros). when I questioned why the big difference I got the std line we constantly reassess the risk associated with each type of car and driver.
Would be living in rural area close to Limerick city so guess that didn't help but also don't think they give full credit for another countries no claims bonus (left straight after college so never owned or insured a car at home before).
Living between the two countries was the best option. Insured in the UK but all servicing and work required done in Ireland while on hols.
