TurtleWax CD2 engine cleaner is good for just £7.99 (possible 2 for 1 offer too).

Cover the alternator, alarm and fuse box. Don't go mad with the jet, let the CD2 do its work and keep the water to a minimum.

Not done this but my mate spent 2 days (16 hours) re-gauging and straightning the inetrcooler fins. Cover this as well.

ive just done this with autoglym engine/machine cleaner and a hose (not jetwash) and its come up quite nicely i think, for 18 months worth of grime anyway

Did use a stiff(ish) brush to agrevate some of it though

Neil.

CD-2 purchased from Halfords this morning. Any last minute tips at all?? Sorry but I'm so paranoid about it all going **** up.

Things to cover up.....
1) Intercooler (how do you clean this otherwise?)
2 Alternator (Risking looking totally stupid - is that the copper wire thing behind the pulleys?)
3) Alarm box
4) Fuse box

Have read some horror stories on here about leads getting wet etc causing erratic revving???

Steam cleaner and truck wash = sparkly clean new engine...cost = nothing (for me )

Nothing beats a bit of heat to shift the grease

Lol I havent used the brake cleaner but using the traditional hard and soft spong combination is so far working for me. I am very paranoid of water getting to places where i dont want it. Friggin car engine bay looked bollocks so thought id clean it. Spent all day and have a good third of it left to clean. But damn it is beginning to look good. Two problems though, above the battery the is this sort of brace thing bolted most likely to keep the battery intact, it is rather rusty and i want to replace it. Where can i get one from. Also there this piece at the fron which i have realised a lot of people tend to change to make their engine bay look neater, i also want one of them. To be precise the piece is right at the fron above the radiator reminds me of a steam engine wheel cover lol.

I have found a pic of both the parts involved. The brace above the battery im referring to is the nice red brace on the bottom right hand corner. Very blatant to spot. And the other piece im referring to is right at the front. The massive red thing.

Where can i get these from.

MUK OFF wheel cleaner is tops for the engine bay. Doesn't stink like Gunk and alloy friendly too.I sprayed and used a toothbrush then a watering can to finish off.
