If I had the money I'd buy all these cheap scoobs that are on here. Your RB5 which is absolutley stunning (think I saw it at Japfest ), a grey STI V6 which is going for only £1,500 more than I paid for my MY00 and yet to get my UK like the V6 its going cost a tad more than 1500 notes!
Just got to win the lottery and buy a big barn to keep them all. They'd be well looked after and sold off only to those who I thought would look after them in the same way I would.
Pipes dreams eh?

£17.5k is silly money, though someone will undoubtedly pay it eventually. The P1 was something like £36k originally, when you could import a near identical brand new STI V for £26k, yet they all sold eventually.

IIRC it was only the WR edition P1 that cost 36K (basic was a mere 31.5K)
good point though because as u say they did all sell eventually

Actually not only that, but they eventually sold 1000 cars rather than the 500 initially promised. I do seem to remember a fair few unsold ones lingering around in dealers' showrooms for rather a long time, though...

If you bought the sti5 at the right time and from a good importer -with the Yen rate at up to 240 to the £ in mid to late 1998 you could have picked up a Brand new S Plate sti5 for £19-£20k (T plates 1999 were several £k more due to the e/r move).............. not bad.......especially when you consider at the time that some Grey importers were charging up to £33k for the same car - now thats what I call a NICE PROFIT MARGIN!!
I laughed for ages when I heard that Subaru were bringing out the P1 (a 2 door based on the sti5) and I had a huge grin when I heard the price!! £8k more for a car with only 2 doors....horses for courses
£17.5K for an RB5 would be nice (someone who pays that must have had a labotomy) - I have a fairly mooded sti5 (I've spent about £40k on it plus the cost of the car, since purchase) which on a T Plate which I value for insurance purposes at about £15k...... yeah I know greedy me - probably not worth anywhere near that!!

I think it was a mistake by Subaru to make a 1000 P1's as it did nothing for the rarity. Could argue RB5's and the other special are more exclusive.
BTW i have nothing against P1's and IMHO thay are very nice.
Mine is quite rare it's one of only about 27,000 MY99 Wagons LOL

If you can sell 1000 cars at £31.5k each, why exactly is it bad business to do so?
Subaru doesn't give a stuff about rarity - like any other business, they care about making money. It would only have been a mistake if they'd not all sold before the bugeye came out.

Could be wrong tho but i'm sure i read that somewhere

I agree Subaru are not bothered about rarity but some customers of theirs are which is why they make the specials and to line their pockets of course
They may be only interested in making money now but i was once appreciated by IM and i've got the limited edition Rosewood Pen to prove it LOL

There was a P1 on here a couple of days ago that didn't sell for £15k even tho it had reasonable mileage
If I thought I could sell my(your old)Sti PPP,without taking such an inevitable massive hit.
then I would (re)buy your RB in flash mate

But I don't see it as trading down...the RB5,although down on power compared to the STi PPP is a much more enjoyable ride and is a much better drive with better power delivery(imho) and more importantly without that stinkin' 6-speed box...which to this day I cannot adapt to

Claims power to be 237bhp, yet it doesn't have the Prodrive spoiler....
I was under the impression that the WR package consisted of PPP and Prodrive spoiler/speedo etc.
Anyway, why the hell hasn't it been snapped up at that price? Strange.....

that does look like a fair deal, can't understand how someone hasn't snapped it up for £7200??? its definitely not a WR though so it'll only be 215bhp, still a very cheap car!!

I don't think any cars are getting 'snapped up' - mine was advertised for three weeks with almost no interest at all, then a whole flurry of enquiries arrived at once. It's a tricky market, I feel sorry for anyone trying to sell an Impreza that isn't in really good nick. Thankfully that's one problem I didn't have.

Hm... not really - you don't know whether cars are actually being sold at the higher price either. £7400 is ballpark for a '99 scooby with 88k miles - maybe even a little high, but then again it's a special edition after all. I've never understood the silly prices people seem(ed) to pay for RB5's.

Subaru main dealers currently have 2 RB5's,
1) 79k miles non WR version - £15,000
2) 22k miles WR version - £17,500
£15k for a high mile non WR version.....
I can't see the dealers knocking any more than a grand off that, and even thats optimistic.
The one on ebay is almost half the price of the similar miles one at main dealers... not exactly consistency in pricing.....

RB5's
The market is not good at the present time.
We sold two RB5's a couple of months ago, after advertising for a while prices were:
WR, 60k, FSH, genuine car but not mint for £10k
non WR, 49k, FSH, absolutely mint £11k.
WellLane up North always have a few in stock and seem to be pricing them at £13k.
