Question Fuel Cat!!--Boosts octane from 95 to 99.

When I was at the JAE one of the stands was selling Fuel Cat.
Has anybody tried it or know anything about it?

Iv got some info from them:

1. Inline Octane booster.
2. Lasts for 100,000 miles.
3. Suitable for any size engine
4. No more expensive super petrol.
5. Simple to install.

The inline fuel cat installed in minutes. Boost octane from 95 to 99. Ideal for Jap impoerts, cosworths, or any engine that works better on super unleaded petrol.

Try a search on 'Broquet' - it's a controversial subject, some people swear by it while others point out that there's no scientific proof that they do anything at all.

Thanks Andy.

After reading some of the past posts I'll wait to see some real proof.

In my opinion, it's rubbish, when the government banned leaded fuel, broquet/fuel cat was supposed to put additives in unleaded fuel to make classic cars run on UL, but several magazines tested the broquet/fuel cat along with other makes and found no real advantage in using them, the "treated" fuel still burnt out the valves on the cars due to unleaded being a higher octane fuel

Very scientific explanation along with history.

Written by broquet though so possibly biased - very interesting though...

*Edit - UK prices....

Could you be more specific please? Which magazines were these? Generally unleaded is a lower octane. It is lack of lead which burns out valves seats in older classics (because they run hotter) not really an octane problem. Octane is more about det' and related problems e.g. holes in pistons. Thank you, DL.

Wasn't Broquet fitted as standard in the petrol tank of the P1? Prodrive must have thought there was some basis for using them....

A catalyst promotes a chemical reaction. You can use any catalyst you like but it won't do s*** if there's not a reacton to start in the first place.

think it is accepted that the p1 had one fitted as standard. judging by the amount that have gone bang it doesn;t appear to have done much

think the p1 uses an sti ecu that doesn't have a large correction faciliy for retarding the ignition when knock is detected. knock could be caused by the low ron in the uk fuel. so whether this miracle device works is open to debate.

if it were that good then you would have thought that it would be used by subaru in all uk cars. bit like those magnets that claim 10% economy increases.
