1/4 mile for road or paper results...

Drag...on a drag strip.

Had a quick look and seems to have been put together using formulas (power/weight etc)

Not the most accurate way of doing it

a quote from the site "In THEORY, how fast should a car accelerate? These performance statistics have been compiled using the LetsTorqueBHP teams' carefully designed formulas based on minimum available car data. As examples, we have hosted about 500 theory figures to show how accurate they can be compared to the real road test figures you may have come across.

The theory figures produced are of a calculated 0-60, 0-100 and 1/4 mile time with terminal speed for many performance road cars. We quote two 1/4mile theory times, one for road/tarmac surface conditions that can be compared to typical road tests, and an additional 1/4mile time on a grippy drag racing surface, which we believe to be slightly quicker. Remarkably the formulas have been set-up for just 3 items of easy available data: BHP, Weight (KG) and drive type. We also list a 'through 60-100mph' time, a true indication of a cars acceleration once moving. We do not take into fact the torque, gear ratios or aerodynamics because this data is not easily available."

I find that Gran Tourismo is rather accurate for timings Can test cars 1/4mile before and after mods. I did this with a few cars a found it rather accurate.

I heard of these formulas before and saw a US site with them... they are remarkably accurate, and they gave examples that were with .1 of a second in six cases...

Still they can't be that accurate... its obvious a WR1 with 8bhp per tonne advantage over the PPP should be 2 seconds quicker to 100...

well at least if you believe Prodrive...!

1270kg for a 22b sounds about right, although I would have though 1300kg was close to the mark.

WR1 is as near as the same weight as uk sti, which is indeed 1470

Mmmmm does a clio do 100in 3rd?

The figures do not add up in all cases, I would be interested to know if things like turbo torque curves, gear ratios, tyres, suspension etc are catered for.

I would say, the drag times are better because there is more grip on the road, but the main thing is because there is a 12" rollout. So in effect the car is alreaddy moving before it breaks the start beam.

I do 11.9 on 0" rollout, and 11.5 on 12" rollout.

Its fairly accurate, but it doesnt take into consideration lots of factors. I added 2 cars, 30bhp difference, 120kg difference in weight, the lighter having the better p2w ratio, and the heavier car was quicker so not perfect.

If the lighter car was only marginally better power to weight, the heavier car can take advantage of it's better power/drag ratio.

So no, you're not perfect

If I put my Gtirs figures in, I can do the 1/4 .13secs faster and 2mph slower than the drag time, alternately If I add 7bhp I get the right time, but 2mph too much, so it's pretty close.
