Hi,
I've just been cleaning my jap Type R for the first time today and I noticed a few bubbles of rust on one of the rear arches.
Is this a common thing on STI's??
I'll get it down the bodyshop and get them to sort it before it turns into a bubbled up wheel arch!!
Paul.

I've got the same car and had the same problem, JDM cars don't tend to come with the rubber arch guards which are standard on UK cars, so are prone to stone chips etc. Best to get it sorted before it gets worse and order some guards.
Or do what I did and get the lip cut out, rolled and sealed......sorted![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

My car had to go in for some work on the rear quarter panel anyway, the car was keyed whilst owned by the previous owner and it had'nt been repaired properly, so had it done then. I would say no though as it's only the lip that needs attention rather than the panel.
Your best speaking to a bodyshop 1st.

chips go orange a long time before they go bubbly, more then enough time for you to notice them (if you do actualy wash your car often and look after it)
bubbling means water is getting through from the back (99% of the time) which is lifting the paint from the metal
now a stone could chip the coating away from the back of the lip but its mostly due to it not being cleaned properly
so which is it?
you still havnet answerd my question about cleaning behind the rear lips when you wash it?

My Type R has it too, the lower most point on the rear arches about where the sill is, it is in the shop now, the guy doing it said it had spread under the paint to about the top of the arch, although you couldn't see it, it was by stone chips and i always wash behind the arch and in the lip, i even had a special old sponge for the job (sad i know)
The sprayer was shocked how thin the paint was and how it has not stone guarding or undersealing type protection, i am very meticulous about keeping my car clean so i would have thought it was common
FYI it cost me £104 quid to have it all fixed and the paint matched perfectly, i would suggest you do it asap

Oh, sticky micky - I've only had the car a couple of days. But it is in MINT condition. it was cared for regardless of cost and cleaned all over the place in all the little nooks and crannies! lol..
I'll post a pic in a min to show you!
Paul.
