Upon returning from a trip to visit family what do I find??

The morning after (I didn't get back into Bristol until 2am) I surveyed the damage in the early morning light...


Why is my glovebox on the back seat?? And what the f*ck did they do to my mats?!?! (Turns out the little darlings after failing to swipe the car kindly used industrial cleaning fluid in an attempt to remove finger prints, or out of sheer spite )


Ah ... now I understand (also found one of the immobiliser units in a rear footwell)


What's left of the alarm ECU and wiring loom on the passenger side...


Would you believe the thieving c*nts swiped the prodrive gear stick ****?? Mind you they left the £300 Road Angel GPS unit on the dashboard )

Repair bill: circa £5,000 (EDIT: final bill)

Insurance company have been excellent (Bell Direct), contacted them on the Monday, by Wednesday the repairs were authorised. Now I'm just waiting on a new wiring loom, looks as if there are none in the country at the moment

Still ... when all is said and done, it could have been worse. They could have jumped me for the keys

Next time I go to Birmingham airport I'll probably travel by train, coach or private limo ... it'll be cheaper than the premium hike and inconvenience caused

That's Birmingham Airport carpark added to my "Avoid" list. Mike, I think I would've cried had that happened to my car.... Infact, they'dve got mine, I suppose one good thing is that you know your car's pretty difficult to pinch. Not that it's any substitute for chopping the dirty b**tards hands off

I can't believe that nobody noticed or even reported the break in after.

I hope it doesn't take too long to get it back to former glory.

It's horrible when someone decided to defile your pride and joy, it's a bit like the time my brother decided to make the beast with two backs with his girlfriend in my brand new (400 miles old)company car, never did like sitting in the back seats after that.

Like you said, at least they didn't manage to get it started.

It's funny but the police officer commented I seemed to be taking it well at the time. I just looked at it like this: me getting angry wouldn't solve the problem or change what had happened. The police and the carpark staff were extremely helpful and quick to act. At one point I did start muttering "there's no place like home, there's no place like home" but that didn't make it any better, my heels just got sore after half an hour or so

Ironically I'd managed to park in a camera blind spot apparently, though I suspect most cameras concentrate on the entrances and exits. I was advised to use carpark 3 as it is brand new and has cameras everywhere ... hindsight is a wonderful thing of course.

As to the carparks responsibility: it's the old 'vehicle left at owners risk' chestnut as per usual. Insurance is paying but I'll no doubt get hit with a premium increase (renewing within the next 2 months ... argh)

i wouldnt have parked in a corner. from the shots it looked secluded, which is what the ******* want..

couple of things puzzle me though..

did the alarm not go off!!! why did the attendants not investigate!!

did you drive the car home!! i woulndt have attempted to move it..

and probably the most worrying bit..

if you managed to drive it home with half the electrics unplugged..

why the **** is it all needed!!! or a subaru getting rid of there parts bin..

Thanks guys, at the time TBH I was more in the shock/denial stage (this can't be happening) but this quickly moved onto the reseigned (**** happens) stage.

I've just had an update from Tileys and a loom should be in country next week, fortunately I don't use the car on a daily basis for commuting/work etc. so not having the car for a week or two isn't the end of the world. It's helping to reduce the petrol bill for this month at any rate

In hindsight parking in a corner was a mistake, my reasoning at the time was the way I'd parked you couldn't even see the car until you were one bay away (high sided MPV blocking it) so they must have been checking every bay.
The alarm almost certainly must have gone off (they popped the window with a screwdriver or similar) but the alarm siren was stoved in. Presumably they popped the window, popped the bonnet and silenced the alarm. How much attention do people pay to an alarm going off for 3-5 seconds?? Also being at the airport the ambient sound level wouldn't help
The car was recovered via Subaru Assist and taken back home on a flatbed, then over to Tileys first thing Monday. The mess they'd made of the electrics meant I couldn't drive the vehicle.

When I've used Birmingham I've always parked in the open air ones.

 

What I'd do if I caught the *******s red handed, makes my blood boil just thinking about it...

I see you also adopt the anti-door ding technique when parking your car, ie- as far in the corner as possible

Dont take this the wrong way mate,but why did you leave the road angel in the car on display? Surely thats asking for someone to break in? I no they werent after your road angel but were after twocin the car but someone else might have. Hope you get it sorted asap.

I was bricking it about leaving mine at a hotel when i flew to cuba from gatwick last year..
turned out the secure car park guys who wouldnt let me park it in the secure area before 9am ("company policy sir..") i flew at 5am -
turned out on return that they couldnt get past the blakjax (despite full instructions from me the night before) and there it sat for the WHOLE two weeks in the temporary parking spot!! unguarded in a blind spot!

to say i was fuming was an understatement- altho the fact it hadnt been touched despite being in plain sight was a huge relief.
altho the battery was flat as a pancake (alarm going off constantly for days and days no doubt )
I needed a new battery to get out of there and go home.. wife was NOT amused.. altho got sorted thanks to the AA man (who ironically also owned a scoob!)
