One month into my first Scooby
Well, what can I say, I'm one month into owning my first scooby and it's been quite eventful! It's been an absolute pleasure and an education to become involved with Scooby ownership. A pleasure because, well, they are just so much fun aren't they? Unlike some other performance cars, the Scooby has real character and doesn't become a liability at low speeds! I defy anyone not to love that flat four burble; everyone comments on it....esp the neighbours! It's been an education because you really do have to up your game with regards to your driving when you get one of these: quick doesn't really cover it! At first it takes a while for your senses to recalibrate....you just kinda hang on for dear life when the boost arrives. Then you start to anticipate the boost, trust the 4WD and push on a bit more in corners and it just comes alive! Everyone says the same thing w en they get on board for the first time
"Can't be that quick surely?"
One reasonably brief squirt in 1st 2nd and 3rd usually generates the same response:
"Shiiiiiit, that's quick"
Exactly...and that's just a standard, unmodified example......save for the lovely H&S backbox!
The only downside is that they do seem to attract a fair share of attnetion from boy racers, but I guess thats par for the course when you own a car with a reputation for being quick. Some of the situations you find yourself in are hilarious, though. Today I found myself at the lights against a boy racer in a.....wait for it...... 1.3 Suzuki (sp?) Swift! Oooooh, stiff competition.
I just laughed and politely gestured for him to go first.
Oh, there is one other downside.....it's hard to resist making your baby even quicker by investing even more of your hard earned in mods!!
Best.

Yes that flat four burble is irresistable....I need a new exhuast.... cos i have to keep opening the windows when its raining
But I do agree with geeva.... I think a Brake upgrade is in order here... (04WRX)

Glad to hear your enjoying your motor. They do make rather nice noise especially at full chat I'm afraid with the boy racer thing you have to get used to it! don't rise to the bait unless it's safe to do so, and keep a sharp lookout for plod in unmarked cars, they make a habit of taunting Scoobs and the likes into racing.

what scoob have you got and what car did you have b4 ?
Is the fuel consumption of the scoob getting on your nerves yet??
how much more per month is the scoob costing you to run compared to your old car?.....(Sorry for all the questions, i just need a realistic idea of running costs for a scoob as i will be buging a bugeye very soon )

After a while i realised that it went down at a rather alarming rate.... then i filled her up with optimax.... cos me £37.... then i realised
I used to drive an alfa 147 1.6!! I have been known to fill that damn thing for £50 standard unleaded!!! So the scoob aint that much worse....
I have been getting 240-270 per tank.... so not the end of the world

I average 160 miles to £25 of Optimax. That's with a mix of hard/normal driving around town. That works out at around 24mpg. No too bad considering...

Walbro pump and FSE reg
K&N Panel filter with some mods to intake

Owned my mint MY93 WRX-RA for nearly 18 months now, though had some major engine work & mods done early on this year.
Took it out yesterday for a while, for a little bit of slip & slide, Oh and a 'G' fix
The next up-grade: Bin the Escort brakes......
Otherwise float on...

Filled up with my first tank of Optimax yesterday (seemed to overfill a bit and cost £41.40!) So far done about 50 miles and it's just off the full marker.

For £40 in my 2003 WRX I can squeeze about 300 miles if I plod it.
For £20 in my M Reg 195,000 miles Diesel Nissan Primera I get easily 260 miles. So, if I put in £40 (which it can't take) I would expect £500 - £550 miles.

Nice to see your first month in a turbo going well!
I'm looking at a 93' wrx tomorrow as upgrading from my impreza sport so hopefully this time next week I'll be blazing around in either an impreza or an evo2/3
What would others go for? a WRX or an EVO3? insurance I presume would be similar on both of them but any considerations or tips on what to look out for when buying either of these cars?

Fuel consumption isn't too bad- not as bad as many would envisage, annyway- I get about 24mpg out of mine from a mixture of town driving and motorways/A roads. This does decrease noticably if you put your foot down, but this is to be expcted: it is a performance car and- as the saying goes- you play, you pay! Running costs have to be viewed in context and given the performance I don't think the fuel economy is too bad.
The fact that it's best to run it on Optimax is more of an issue!
And don't get me started on Insurance!
Best.

had my99 turbo for 8 weeks now, think its bloody marvellous!!
this is the only car i have had were i dont bother to put the face back on the cd player, rather listen to the car.
launched it properly for the first time last week, sure i had cottage pie in me boxers when i got to the next set of traffic lights!!!
have been seen cleaning it in the dark and in the rain.
it is a great feeling, all those admiring glances.
love the car.
p.s do you ever lose the daft grin while you are driving your scooby?

R4 Rick. Standard fuel is exactly that: OK...acceptable, but the car will run better on super unleaded...BP Ultima or Optimax. Avoid the cheap stuff: running inferior quality fuel on a performance car is hazzardous for its health and can cause it to go pop! Good quality fuels like optimax and- I believe- BP ultimate also have detergents in to keep your internals in good order.
Basically, you get out what you put in! :-)
