When your insurance company asks you to write a report as to what has happened, see if you can get someone else to write it for you.

I'm with GSO on this one, if someone flashes you out ignore them, how do you know other road users know what's going on?

And if you say that to your ins co. its ta ta claim

According to the highway code.

flashing of headlights it to be used as a warning to let other drivers know you are there!!

so in effect what you have just said is...

The guy to my right flashed his headlights to warn me he was there, but i

launched myself across in front of him, and was struck by a car who was righly

proceeding about there business, as i should have given way untill the road

was clear!!!

sorry about the car.. good luck with the ins. co.

I think he's entitled to put a babbled post on considering what had just happened.

I was in the car at the time (jinx??), and it happened at the end of my road.

The car which drove round the front of us (and we hit) had stopped to leave a gap - as you are meant to do at junctions. There was nowhere for her to go to our left due to queue. Si was edging out waiting for someone to give way the other way. At some point here she started up again anyway and tried to make it round the front of him as he was pulling round to the right. The guy the from our left who flashed was stationary and is not at all the problem here.

When we hit the other car it was in the middle of the road. I.e. she had seen he was coming out and nipped forward and attempted to stick her car in the way.

I don't suppose the fact she admited liabilty will hold much water

Bit of a barst..

This happened to my sister but in reverse. A wagon was pulling out as she approached the junction. Guy opposite side of oad flashed the wagon out, but my sister was late for work so didnt flash him out.

He pulled out anyway, and my sister went under the wagon in her brand new Saxo VTR

Wagon driver tried telling Police that he had been flashed out and the Police gave him so much verbal abuse about not pulling out even if flashed it was unreal. Completely wagon drivers fault, so you will be liable in this case i'm afraid

Hope you get it fixed.

A little different as your sister hadn't stopped but yeah my dad did near enough the same thing at the same junction on my road and it was his fault.

In his case though the car he hit HAD flashed him but obviously changed his mind as the lights further down went green. Still, 3.5k damage to their volvo and £7 for a new headlight for my dad's old scrapper

Might make a big difference if you have witnesses. I know you're never suposed to admit liability at the scene even if you know it was your own fault. Do you have the details of the male driver who gave way?

I'm in and out of junctions all the time in my job and it can be so frustrating when people won't let you out and even actively try and stop you getting out like it sounds like this woman did.

Wait a minute, who hit who here? If she stopped and you were edging out and had made it over the white line, THEN she went round you on the wrong side of the road as you turned right (which is what SiDHEaD's post - your witness - implies) I would strongly argue she made a reckless manoeuvre. Although she might have verbally admitted fault this may well change when the paperwork is filled out. When the insurance companies argue the toss they may well settle on knock for knock in the circumstances.

Si was partly out, waiting for gap other side. Guy flashed him out he went to go, woman tries to go round the front of him (up the middle of the road). Si hits front wing/corner of her car.

Golden rules - what does it mean when someone flashes their headlights at you? It means their headlamps are working. What does it mean when someone is indicating left or right? It means that their indicators are working. It doesn't mean that they will turn as indicated. OK, so headlamps thing not relavant in this case but it's a rule worth remembering.
