Red face Subaru withdraws the MY05 STI & WRX

Just been on Subaru UK's web site. Guess the dealers with lots of MY04's to sell have been complaining. The press release about the new improved version has been deleted

Guess they need to shift a few WR1. Still they managed to convince Birdy to buy one

Interesting...

I heard the other day that Subaru UK were really getting their knickers in a twist (more so than usual) about MY05 EU imports being available to buy here now!

Oddley enough, all the adverts on Auto Trader for EU imports seem to have disappeard!

Just a coincidence??? Just a thought!!!

Meanwhile my MY05 4dr is on it's way to it's first service and freedom... Yes!

The press release was on there for the last couple of week. My point is that they have now taken it back off their site

How funny I wonder how many MY04s they've got left, then?

Obviously it's a simple logistical error - more cars ordered than they could sell - but I seem to remember Subaru also getting a lot of flak when they last dropped the price of the WRX to shift old stock.

I do hope people ordering MY04 do get some good deals, though - it would be very sad for people to get MY04 when they could have insisted on MY05 if they simply knew it existed, without at least getting a discount.

Andy - you should be able to get a brand new 04 STI for just over £22K - so a fair discount on list.

how many wr1's have actually been sold compared to being a demo as one dealer says he can get as many as he wants?

Last I heard they had over 600 at the compound (WRX and STi) although not sure of breakdown. But let's not forget Subaru hold control of this. My MY05 was due end of October, beginning Nov, so the dealer was told by Subaru. Then he phones me on the 23 Sept to say Subaru have just advised him it was being dropped off at his compound the following day, 24 Sept, which it was. If they chose to drop the cars off, then who's fault is that...

As you say though, there will be plenty of MY04 and I bet dealers are keeping quiet about MY05 to the unsuspecting punter and holding on to their profit margin as well. Two dealers near me still have new WRX and STi on the forecourt (MY04) and no MY05's in sight. I think someone got a bit carried away with ordering MY05's!

... I went into my dealer to see if I could get a good deal on an MY04 but all he had (in a wagon, short supply so obviously the cooler car ) was an MY05 and could only source 1 MY04 (at another dealers)

They didn't ask for it, Subaru just dropped it off .. they didn't know it was an MY05 so as mightyvid says ... who's fault is that ?

Lets face it if you're not a avid Subaru fan would you know there's a new MY05 out? I have a mate with an MY01 wagon and he had no idea

Question

Dose anyone know that Crystal Grey isn't the only new colour for MY05?

The other one (and there could be more for all I know) is the... (wait for it) WR1 silver/greenish/blue! (Sorry I don't know the proper name but I'm sure you know the colour) I saw an MY05 wagon in it on Saturday, looked very nice! If I'd have know before I'd have considered having my 4dr in it!

Default Dont consider buying 04 without substantial discount

Dont consider buying 04 without substantial discount as the market is already more supply than demand for used 04 cars and they will surely instantly plummet in value.

Clearly the cars must be sold at substantial discount if they are to be cleared when 05 is available / supplied already

******* hell it doesn't take very long for any thread regarding the MY05 to be turned into a 'WR1 Failure' post.

Do you guys just sit there having a w@nk waiting for a thread that can be turned into yet ANOTHER WR1 battering session.

What a bunch of tw@ts

oops - didnt mean to offend, just making an observation on the prices - I would be more than happy with one, at the market price - would you really disagree on the pricing estimates?

p.s. suggesting a drop of £4k over 8mths is hardly being deliberatley offensive!

must **** wr1 owners off if you can get an my05 in ice blue.

and gangsta your remark of "who will never get the chance to" is making a lot of presumtions and seems a little arrogant. if i want to go test drive a wr1 i will go to the dealer who would be more than happy to let me have a test drive.

His ranting's are legendary

It's odd that they are delaying the MY05 though to clear only 600ish of the others...

Smurf- The thread is about prices and not whether or not the WR1 is a good car.

The fact is whatever you think about the WR1 it hasn't helped sales and therefore can't help values.

Calling others names only confirms you are more than a little rattled, even with your head in the Sarfend sand.

p.s I'll give you 18k for your WR1.

£5K depreciation in the 1st year isn't bad.

Anyone that wants the top of the range of any car marque, pays the price when it comes to sell/trade-in and Subaru is no exception.

The WR1 is a great car and people will buy them for all sorts of reasons, one of them will not be that it will be depreciation proof.

Do you get more, for less with the STi MY05 (PPP) over the WR1's?

I can understand why... only been out for a while & already new my05 out after only a few months of ownership!.

Subaru should have brought the MY05 out in Mar/April & at least given WR1 owner time to enjoy being a limited model.

I think the plug has been temporarily pulled on the MY05 so dealers don't have to give as much discount on the stock of MY04s. 600 cars may not seem much, but don't forget this isn't a Focus TDCi we're talking about, it's a relatively niche model.

And can the moderators please edit any post that mentions WR1 so Gangsta Smurf doesn't get upset.

The mY05's will lose about 6 or 7 grand anyway if you tried to sell them after 6-12 months. It's a fact of life, if you can't take the hit don't buy a brand new car.

Just chill Gangsta!
You're starting to sound like one of those people that go round telling anyone that will listen that they're not gay - if you know what i mean!

You're the one driving around in the car that most of us would happily swap a bollock for - so just enjoy it and dont bother rising to the bait!
