Question something just dawned on me......

I have a MY93 WRX-RA 'Import' which is in superb condition throughout.

I cannot get my head around the fact that the car is showing 73.850 on the clock and the underside is still like new. I'm well aware of the climate difference having an effect on the general condition, however the underside is clean & certainly looks original.

Then it suddenly dawned on me, yes the clocks have been changed to read mph 'white dials' & the calibration is fine. But the mileage drum would be kilometres and is still the original one, so this means the mileage is drastically less.

Not sure of the conversion & would be interested to know the correct mileage.

Am I the only one who has overlooked this, or has this been mentioned before ?

Does it not read in km up until you have the conversion, and then it continues counting up in miles?

So you could have 73,850 on the clock, 60,000 of those being km and 13,850 being miles. Or have I invented that during a trip to cloud cuckoo land?

surely when it's converted to miles whoever does it would set the clock to then display how many miles the car has done?

Well thanks for the reply minor threat........

The car has only covered just over 2500 miles since coming into the country in Jan 03 & I have done aprrox 1600 of those & that includes 400 miles since new engine.

Red, Good to hear from you.
Yes the sofa has gone and I use the car occasionally, and still waiting to cover 1000 miles to have the boost in its rightfull place.

Tell you what mate the cars mint, best 6K I've ever spent, and your right you soon forget the cost.

Next year, hill climb it is, apparently its more than capable now.

Next investments are:
Bin the Escort brakes and get a more effective stopper kit,
Better wheels, can't be arsed with my mc'donalds five spokes.
& a six speed gearbox, which should improve the take off reliability of the original short box, or so i'm told.

How's yours doing now ?

Rgds
PNB

Oh & Minor threat before you ask, my car is white not mint......

Nope, Ive just bought a Type R, and it appears all they have done is put MPH sticker over the KPH sticker. It is still showing the kilometers reading that was on it before the SVA. I dont know about it reading miles as opposed to kilometers now its been "converted"

Red
You don't know how close you are to the truth, I try to avoid using it in the rain.

Mad I know.....

It's very clean but not 'showroom' however for a 93 build it's not in bad nick at all.

Need the rear bumper painting, it has a scrape on the near side, but that's how it came from the East, it was noted on the shipping documents before being container-ised.

Have to meet up one of these days, do you attend any local meets Worcester way ?

Cheers

if i remeber correctly the ra did not have any under body seal in japan. When it came over to the uk recently somebody may have given it a nice fresh coat which would explain the cleanlyness

if thd spedo reads 110mph, then you will still be clocking up km's now, if it reads 180mph then it was km's upto when the converter was put in, then to miles now, if it is just a lockwood stick-over, then above the odometer, then it will say km. hope this helps

Hi Scoob +B +F
Speedo has lockwood decals & has the 180mph figure. The car has done only 2500 miles since arriving in the UK, and the speedo was altered to read MPH before being used in the UK.
I've owned the car since June 03, it came over here in Jan 03, the guy who imported it only used it a couple of times then I purchased it.

No there is no fresh coat of sealer underneath, its as original.

Roojai is right, although I havent checked the figures, i trust his calculations, now all you have to do is either make a mental note of this, or "correct" it to 47k miles

The usual way it's done is to change the clocks (either via stickers or with new dials) then put a 5/9ths reduction gear in the speedo cable mechanism. The speedo will now read up to 180 mph instead of 180 kph, and the milometer will tick over in miles.
