Tarmac Rallies

Tarmac Rallies
Thinking about the WRC in Corsica who prefers tarmac rallies?
IMHO the cool spec the cars run in together with the blinding speeds round bends just makes the whole thing more exciting than gravel rallies (even though the skill needed on gravel is just as awesome).
Opinions please!!!!!!!

I was at the German Wrc this year and even though it wasn't a good rally for Subaru, the whole ashphelt experience was just brill. The cars look thier best being soooo low and huge wheels and the tricky sliding corners. Having said that I have yet to go to a non tarmac rally which we are going to do next year.
Here in Ireland the Irish championship is all ran on tarmac and I follow it all year round especially when there is 28 wrc cars competition...

I was at the Corsica Rally with the SIDC and we all commented on how much better most of the cars looked in tarmac specification, they are so much lower to the ground and look awesome, apart from the pug which is never going to look good, no matter how many bits of plastic you bolt on to it!!

Have been to many world championship events, mostly gravel.
Although the tarmac stages are fantastic the true heart of rallying is 'off road'
i.e. forest gravel stages.
having watched the best, Mikkola, Eklund, Vatenen, Toivonen, Alen, Kankkunen, Blomqvist, Solonen, Sainz, TOMMI (The Best), McRae, Burns etc etc. do that stuff on the loose, nothing comes close.
Simply awesome.
Forgot to mention Michelle Mouton (Audi Quatro) who almost won the world championship. The best female driver ever.

agreed tarmac is the nicest to put relevence to, i.e. cars we can relate to on roads we can relate to but the true eseence of rallying comes from all teh different surfaces they run on

As a spectator then gravel
As a competitor then tarmac - the thought of 80mph on the loose with big solid trees to hit isnt my idea of fun

I love both really. For all out fun and sideways action value gravel is best, but tarmac rallies are good because there usually faster and the cars look better because there on bigger rims and brakes!
