I have a 97 STI Type R, I have a guy that services my car but I only want the right/best parts to be used, so I supply the parts. I need an oil change and don't know what the best oil is for the car....anyone have any advice?

Any fully synthetic, so long as it's NOT 0w as thats to thin, Mobil1 or Motul I understand are good, mine's always done by a main dealer (warranty etc..) and they use BP Visco something fully synth, but as it's changed every six months (I only do about 8 thousand miles a year), it's like new when it comes out anyway.

Be careful with the ANY synthetic theory. Many oils labelled as synthetic are normal mineral oils with synthetic addatives (hydrocracked). Also, Mobil 1 is a good oil, but not ideal for Scoobys. Motul 300V is the preferred, but I use Silkolene ProS at the mo'. Set aside an hour to read through THIS thread. The originator (oilman) supplies Silko, and will be stocking Motul soon. What he doesn't know about oil isn't worth knowing, or so it seems.

I would recommend using either a 5w-40 or 10w-40 / 10w-50 proper synthetic oil.
Silkolene and Motul are good ones and so is Mobil 1 (but only comes as 0w-40 or 15w-50).
My recommendation would be for one of these oils.
Cheers

Some tech data can be found here: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/lubricants.htm
Details on Motul will be up later on this month.

Just re-read some of oilmans posts, the 5W50 Mobil 1 is cheap as they are selling off old stocks as it is now discontinued. Apparantly it is very expensive to produce such a wide viscocity and requires lots of VI stabilisers
which affect the longevity of the oils properties.

Bournemouth Type R
Assuming you're from Bournemouth, if you use Triton Motorsport at Hurn, they know exactly what your car needs, and are reputed to be one of the best independants around this area for scoobs!!
