Disconnecting the crank sensor will stop the ecu getting a signal pulse, and therefore prevent the ignition fron getting a spark.

If you unplug the crank position sensor it'll turn over without fueling or sparking. It's the little sensor in the centre of the engine on the front, top of the block, above the crank shaft (no suprise there!!), in by all the pulleys. It's usually got a little brown 2 pin plug on it.

Sorry mate, not my usual style. I didn't have a clue what you were on about but you seem to have some proper responses now

its ok wilster i just think the AA are all muppets lol .....ok ppl i thought it was that sensor but didnt want to go messing with things till i found out for sure, it seems i have enough problems as it is, turbos (tdo5) going to cost £380+vat and i dont know if ive done a piston yet i need to do a compression test.....Would i know if ive done a piston whats the symptoms ??? its started smoking at traffic lights or when at idle then if u rev'ed it loads of smoke would poor from the exhaust then clear???

also any idea on price/make of piston and headset..

Thanks again ppl
