Default Thinking about getting..

A skyline. 2.5 6cyl turbo gts-t. I love my scoob but theres just too many about and I really fancy a change - LOL - only had the ra for 3 months!
Anyhow, was wondering has anyone on here got or owned one of these and how do they compare to the scooby??
any advice most welcome.
Cheers, Pat.

I had a look at one when I bought my Type R, they're big, numb and unless you get the V-spec, have horrible seats (sounds daft I know but....) and are only 260BHP standard... bleur..

(oops.. forgot to say IMHO )

STI/RA...I did infact take a look at the 2.0 version before buying the scoob,A very heavy car,The one i looked at,Had some body rot so did`nt bother...You can get versions down as low as 215 bhp..Depending on year/model....That can be tuned to something mad...But it takes MAD money to do this also....I thought the RA would have been pleanty quick...Mine is...The skyline engine does sound awsome on song though.....Try a couple and see what you think......Kev.

Skyline doesn't have the low down power of the scooby. It does fly when its up to speed though. Feels a bit heavy and is rear wheel drive so a bit scary in the wet.
No wot you mean about the scooby being a bit common, but thats why you should just make it stand out from the crowd. The scooby is more fun.

Cheers guys i guess i will just go and give it a try. Just to settle some arguements the car im looking at is an r33 gts-t. Its a 2.5 6cyl 24valve turbo. Its got a blitz super sound bov, apexi induction kit and a full trust exhaust so i would say power is around 280+bhp the same as my r/a. The seats are rank i agree but they are way comfier than my corbeau forza's! As for handling, its equipped with HICAS its an active 4 wheel drive system which senses traction loss and then feeds power to the appropriate wheel/s - very clever.
Test drive it next week so i will post with the results.
Cheers

i thought hicas was the 4 wheel steering, not 4 wheel drive system? also aren't the gts-t's rear wheel drive?

could be wrong, it does happen frequently

Thats correct I have a 94 GTST on the boat as we speak - they are defo not 4 wheel drive its back wheel drive the GTR is a 2.6 twin turbo 4 wheel drive.

I had a 94 wrx before and this was the change I wanted - I like to be different and its not all about power. They are damn quick in standard form though and to take it to 300 bhp doesnt actually cost as much as you think.

They are also not as heavy as you think as they dont have the 4 wheel drive to lug about, so good info on www.skylineowners.co.uk or drop me an email as I dont post here much anymore

Yep you are right halo its rear wheel drive but afaik HICAS senses traction losses and puts power to the appropriate wheel so its kinda like 4wheel drive?? I could be wrong tho lol im away to check out skylineowners.
Cheers.

Cool maybe see you over there - however HICAS doesn't do this its a 4 wheel steering system that kicks in depending on the degree of turn, basically it flicks the rear wheels by a small amount to prevent understeer etc.

It doesnt sense traction loss - that is purely the 4 wheel drive system on the GTR mate That site will tell you everything you need to know and they are friendly lot

HICAS is a rear steer system, does nothing for power transfer. It reverse steers the wheels to initiate turn in crisply, then points them in concert with the fronts to keep the car in a gentle understeer state to promote stability in cornering. Pretty neat most of the time Quite a few peeps disable it to get more ultimate control though...

Unless the R33 you are looking at has the active rear diff, it'll have a iscous lsd, IIRC.

Which era are you talking abt? I've had an R30, 32s for years (7+), a 33 for 3 days, and 34 for 6 years now... (yep, I'm a seriously sad RWD Skyline lover )

Personally, the 33 was confusing. Lost the handling of the 32 for a more confy, cruiser style of performance that was both slower, and less stable when pushing on. The wallow in fast directional changes (common here, and on UK B roads too) was a bit disconcerting (OK, I had to change my pants once, coz the thing snapped on me in the wet big time once), hence it going back and one of the 2 R32s I had staying. It - the R33 - was slower, less wieldy, and far less fun to drive (IMHO of course) than either the R32 or 34...

The R34 got the fun back thankfully, and I've been enjoying it Still heavy, but now hides it better. Packaging is poor though, and a modern scoob, or Legacy leaves it for dead... When it comes to safety (both active and passive) it is also rather middling, with the Subaru products waaaay ahead (esp if ice/snow and heavy/greasy wet conditions come into play).

Having said which, I've got both, and enjoy them heaps, but if I had to keep one, the Subaru would stay (the Nissans also have poor fuel economy by comparison).

HTH, all IMHO of course (please lower the flame throwers)

Have to agree with you.... Hate the 33 but i have a R32 GTR at mo,
Which i bought while i was waiting for my spec c to be sva'd/model report.
Mainly because it was affordable and "different ".
And there are no sva ect with these cars.

And i must say yes you lose the off the mark speed of the sti...but you gain lots of othere things, I had a play with a wr1 and although it was quicker of the mark..He couldnt shake me once i got into 3rd and lack of road stopped me from taking him (straight line)
Corners are different...lol at spare pants joke

But for a old car she does get the looks and the drive has convinced me to purchase a 34,

AJBaseBloke i went for the v-spec with a few mods ...
I was hoping that it would be as good as my scoob off the mark!???!!!!
I hope im not going to be dissapointed
Well i can always just look at it

So kid its all on personal choice...

Thanks for all the info fellas - very helpful indeed. I really want a change, ive had a handful of hot hatches, an evo 3 and now the scoob and now just looking for a grand touring machine, was thinking about an e36 m3 but i think i'll wait till the prices come down a bit more. Im just trying to work my way up the performance car ladder - 23 now so hopefully by the time im 33 i'll have a porsche!! lol.
Cheers lads.
