savings between Scooby and non-scooby?

Been doing my expenses and worked out we just about have enough coming in to cover outgoings, but not much more. Wondering again about whether the savings on a non-scooby would be significant enough for me to switch.
Car is owned, so I don't want to factor in finance/depreciation (don't depress me!)
I figured £350 for servicing per year, £700 for insurance (what I'm paying now), and £155 per month for petrol (tracked over 6 months, so pretty accurate at current rates)
Now I could switch to a more practical car, like a Focus turbo diesel. Or the wife would have a BMW.
So what would the theoretical monthly savings be for, say, a focus turbo diesel and a BMW320d?

roughly how much though? If I'm only spending £155 a month on the scooby, averaging 25mpg, surely I'll only get about a 50% increase in fuel economy, so about a 33% saving (about £50 a month). Thats not massive compared to the fun I'm having.
Servicing on a BMW would be about the same. Insurance maybe a little less (lot less on a focus)
So maybe £800 a year saving for the BM (£200 less insurance, £50 a month fuel)
£1000 for the focus (£50 fuel, £100 servicing, £300 insurance)
Sound about right?
