Default Well I got my Wagon....

Hey folks...
Well I went and did it, got rid of the Bm320d and bought a 2001 WRX Wagon...
First thoughts.... No-where near as quick as the old 1999 four door i had, seems a lot heavier, but certainly better put together than the 99er was... Where the 99 would pick up its skirts and haul hard when the turbo came in, the 2001 bugeye just seems to have a lot more linear curve to it, but it keeps on going and before you realise you are really haulin...Love the wagon as well actually got some big stuff in there this pm... very handy, and it doen't attract attention as much either which is very handy..
One thing i do not like though... the brakes are flippin awful, dead, and lifeless... they don't seem to bike at all... just coast to a stop...are the 2001's all like that, or is it just mine, just seems that after the bmw the brakes are crap...
What are yours like?
cheers...Keith

Nice one Keith & welcome from another wagoneer.

Unless there is a problem, such as glazed pads, the four pots are supposed to be far better than the two pots were on the earlier classics. And when I upgraded my brakes my original four pots were snapped up by a classic owner.

There are several options to make your brakes better - depends on your
budget. There are after-market pads, discs & complete brake kits. You can change the brake lines to braided steel & you can put in a higher spec fluid.

This is one popular way to upgrade & I went this route on an earlier group buy from Godspeed :-

I have these on my 03 Wagon :- BREMBO FOUR POT CALIPERS/FERODO DS2000 PADS/STAINLESS STEEL LINES/335MM DRILLED & GROOVED VENTILATED GODSPEED DISCS/ALLOY BELLS

I agree about the naff brakes. I had my subaru dealer fit prodrive discs, pads and braided hoses to my 03 wagon and the brakes are a lot better than they were, cost £500-£600 fitted.

Thanks for the help folks, esp. FlatEric... very helpfull...Have the car booked in tomorrow for the brakes to be checked at the supplying dealers, so hopefully they will find summat and fix the things... If they are meant to feel like this, then I will be upgrading fast... and the Godspeed kit sound good for the money... esp. if I can sell on the old kit as well, makes it affordable to upgrade.
Thanks for the help it's much appreciated.
Keith
